If they sell 800 cars a month then they can't all be bad surely? In fact the majority must be OK and at that volume and with the buy at auction, stack em high and sell em cheap there are always going to be problems.

I would never buy from there and take that gamble but they must have at least some happy customers with those numbers.

good lord this is one of those threads that I wish I had seen before I bought my e90.

bought it from big motoring world just over 3 months ago (long enough for the warranty to expire!!!)

not had *touch wood* any problems at the moment, and to be honest my experience was completely fine. Granted the salesman knew absolutely nothing about the cars I was interested in, and knew nothing about cars in general. But I picked up a 2012, 1 previous owner (bmw garage with full service history) e90 sport plus with only 23k on the clock, for a perfectly competitive price.

I was somewhat aware of the bad rep, but did my research, picked out a few cars online, all of which were still available when I went for a visit, took it for a decent test drive and walked away happy.

going by this thread I am obviously in the minority, but I have to say, as long as you know what you're looking at, I don't see what the all the fuss is about. (flame suit on)

I guess only time will tell as to whether or not my opinion stays the same.

Thanks for keeping this thread going.

I'm looking for an E93 M3, and saw one that looked quite good advertised by Big Motoring World, but after reading this thread (and other reviews in a similar vein elsewhere on the web) I think that I'll look elsewhere!

Thought I'd relay my experience with Big MW. Being as I live only 5 miles away from the West Malling site, thought I'd find out for myself. I found 3 cars on Autotrader (F20 120d) that I was interested in and turned up without pre-warning - all were in stock and I had a good look round them. I then made an appointment to go back for a test drive of my preferred model with my wife 3 days later. On arrival the salesman was with another customer but popped over to give my wife some old flannel which did not impress! He finally appeared some 40 mins later and took another 20 mins to find the key and get the car out for me to drive. The test drive consisted of 5 mins up the road and 5 mins back! Apparently the best they can do as they are so busy, but useless for me as I hadn't driven a 1 series. He then insisted on valuing my car even though I told him that it wasn't worth anything and I didn't need to trade in. This took another 20 mins before he came back and told me it wasn't worth anything!! Finally he put a piece of paper in front of me that had a total of £15K at the bottom - this for a car with a screen price of £12.5K wtf! £2.5K of warranty, admin fee (£150!!) and protection treatment that I had already said I wasn't interested in! Told the salesman that I wanted a discount on the screen price and was told that they weren't making any money on the car (yawn) and only the owner of the company could decide that as he priced all the cars! At this point we had wasted enough time and decided to leave - salesman's parting remark was 'if you raise the extra money give me a call' cheeky git!
Two days later the price was dropped by £500 but they haven't called me which leads me to think they are only interested if you want the all the added extras. Not worth the fuss over a car which had absolutely no extras except metallic paint which was badly stone chipped despite only 30K miles!

Hi, I'm a newbie on here and have been reading a few threads to find my way around !!! As Big Motoring World are doing so well on here thought I would add my experience of 18 months ago ............. and coincidentily I am less than 3miles from the West Malling site, a factor to consider in this tale I think.
I was looking for a hard top convertible for my wife so did the normal trawl of the websites and whilst on Autotrader up popped just what I was looking for, low mileage 5 year old car and at the right price ............ dealer Big Motoring World .......... great I thought, 5 minutes down the road .......... I'll go and have a look, but phone first just to make sure it's still available, "Yes, its still available and a lovely car, come and have a look" said the enthusiastic salesman on the phone.
Arrived on site to be completely ignored for at least 15 minutes ?? eventually found someone to talk to about the car I had come to see and was told " No, sorry that was sold a few days ago" so calmly I explained that I had just spoken to someone on the phone and they said it was here to look at "No, whoever it was you spoke to didn't check the computer stock list" then in true stereotypical secondhand car salesman banter he proceeded to show me "similar cars" at more than twice the price !!!! With nothing of a similar price I left thanking them for wasting my time and petrol travelling to the site (imagine if I had driven 20miles plus to view the car!!!).
So over the next few days I continued my search on Autotrader and still this convertible BMW appeared in my searches. So I phoned Big Motoring World to see if the previous sale had fallen through and guess what answer I got ..... "Yes, its still available and a lovely car, come and have a look" when questioned further and after asking to speak to the site manager about my previous wasted visit days earlier I was told "No, it has been sold, we've told Autotrader but they haven't updated the info".
This car continued to be advertised on Autotrader for a further 6 WEEKS and out of curiosity I phoned every week and guess what answers I got ..... "Yes, its still available and a lovely car, come and have a look"
I will leave you to make your own conclusions as to whether this car ever existed ........... I have my doubts, and if driving any distance to the site be warned the car you are going to look at might not be there.

Hey Guys! Another disappointed customer of Big Motoring World Canterbury here.Just to keep the thread alive, and to keep others from making a mistake, this was my experience with them:

Bought a 09 reg BMW 320d In June from BM World Canterbury. Not going to bore you with all the details, in a nutshell, 6 year old automatic beemer 140k on the clock for just under £7000 cash.
For “peace of mind” bought 12 month third party warranty on top of the 3 month BM World gives you as standard (contract and T&C will follow in the mail in a few weeks’ time). Salesman assured me all cars are checked presale, and I am fully covered by the warranty. What could go wrong, right?
When the crankshaft pulley came off 4 weeks and 600 miles later, I was told on the phone, that “used cars do break down, It is not their problem”, nevertheless I should speak to the after-sales department. Many phone calls later I learned the following Things:
1. The warranty applies, as it’s not considered wear and tear, but I should pay upfront to the garage that fixing it, then claim back the money upon receipt, minus the £100 excess, which is payable on every claim. Furthermore it only pays maximum £1000 per claim, and the total of all claims per car cannot exceed the value of the car (quite an issue when you get a used BMW with engine troubles).
2. BM World unable to help or assist with recovering the car, no courtesy car offered.
3. It takes 3 signed-for letters, two emails, some time on the phone and a visit in person to get an official answer out of them 9 weeks after first contact.
4. They don’t consider consumer law to apply (Sale of Goods act 1979), and simply state that the issue was not there when they sold the car (even thou they offer no proof of that).
“I was aware of age and mileage at the time of sale” they wrote.(yet it isn't wear and tare??)
5. Office of fair trading will only tell you that you can take it to court if you want, but will not do much else for you.
6. Within 6 weeks of sale had to replace 2 unevenly worn tires, so do check even if the car has a fresh MOT on it.(I did not claim for those, however it was missed at presale checks and MOT?)
7. They won't pay for any costs, not even the £100 excess.Together with car hire, travel costs to collect the car and the tires, I'm out of £750.

After some "negotiations" on the phone, they agreed to pay for the repair, and claim it back on the warranty themselves, but it isn't clear to me if it actually happened.

On a personal note: BMW’s n47 engines have lots of problems I was unaware of until recently, do your research before buying one from any trader.

Couldn't be truer words. Really must do your homework when buying cars. N47 between 2007-2009 riddled with timing chain problems, and even then, the F series have had noisy N47's. Seeing the back of the N47 is the best step forward for BMW IMO. Just a shame that your average punter won't even think twice to research it.

When I was looking before buying my E91 I found a couple from here but all it took was a phone call to make me decide never to deal with them and that was before I saw this post or was a member in here.

Saying that I also had appalling customer service as a potential buyer at a local BMW dealers when I called in to have a look and serious talk about purchasing which again had me walk out never to deal with again.

You get good and bad with everything just keep your head and don't get mugged off I walked away from many cars I liked and glad I did as finally I got a cracking car at a good deal from a BMW dealer who did it right from begining to end.

I'm currently looking for another bmw to replace mine and I'm constantly being shown feature adds from big motoring world so my question is should I ask Auto Trader if they can add a big motoring world button to exclude it from your search

Just to add to this (I will post a separate thread as I need some advice on garages).

I bought a 335i N56 08 reg from Canterbury Motoring World in March. I believe they are part of the Big Motoring World group. I bought the car on hire purchase through Car Finance 24/7, who have actually been really good to deal with.

Big Motoring World, on the other hand, appear to be a very dodgy place to deal with indeed. The car has the dreaded wastegate rattle, but earlier in the year I had to convince them to repair the car (two months into ownership) because of what I thought was a failing HPFP. Turns out it was faulty injectors. Under the consumer credit act, Car Finance 24/7 helped me out as they're jointly liable being the finance provider.

The wastegate rattle has just got worse and worse and I had to fill up the coolant last week as there was a warning on the dashboard. I also never received the DVD sat nav disk which is on the invoice to be supplied, and they never sent me my V5 or the service booklet (which again was agreed in writing). To top this off, when I was buying the car the salesman said it was the second time they had sold the car as the previous owner sold it back to them after a few weeks (wtf?).

All in all, it's just not what I would have expected. As a result and based on the wastegate rattle in particular, I am formally rejecting the car through the finance company, which I'm entitled to do as still within the six months of the consumer rights act 2015.

The finance company has asked that I get an independent garage to write a report proving that there is an issue with the car. Rather than just take it to Kwik-Fit or Halfords, I would like a real expert to take a look and hopefully they will be able to provide clear evidence of a fault.

So after that long-winded story, does anybody have any recommendations on a reputable, friendly BMW specialist (ideally with good working knowledge of the N54 engine) that could take a look at the car? I would ideally like somebody who is understanding of my situation and supportive of my wish to provide a concrete case that the car is faulty.

Thanks for your help all! Post Number 1 complete

So... I was drawn by the low prices and high spec of cars on the Big Motoring World website. A car worth at least 22-23k for 19.5k - it's been on the website for about 2-3 weeks now.

Over the chat box they told me that it had been sold, but the buyer failed a credit check so its back on the market again.

Is this deal too good to be true? My gut says yes it is, but if it is genuine its a really good deal.

This thread hasn't had any posts for a while... Not been that impressed with their reviews, but there is some truth in that people with bad experiences are generally more vocal than those with good...

These people are bound to sell some good cars and some bad. The same as most garages. Any car under 3 years old is covered by BMW warranty, so you are really looking at the condition of the car and trying to identity anything untoward that the dealer is not revealing. I have read the thread in the past and most people seem to be complaining about the quality of SERVICE, not necessarily the actual cars. For example, Salesmen not telling the truth, advertising cars that have been sold, Arthur Daley-type tactics, etc... The thread has probably gone quiet because many of the original forum members seem to have moved on now.

These now have a place at Peterborough. Seems some things never change , went in to look at a Evoque I had seen driving past as the Mrs is after one. Had a quick look around it , asked for more details and was basically refused any more information. All you get is " Let me introduce you to ***** , he is our finance manager , how much do you want to spend?"
