How did I connect the paddles up? I just followed Alans excellent (and correct!) diagram from memory! It's on page 2 of the thread if I recall.

Yes, the yellow wires did connect to the redundant pins on the wheel side of the coupler. The pins I salvaged from an old PC PSU were ideal for the job.

The yellow wires I snipped and then connected my installed wiring to the tails from the connector.

I would to say i want to past a alpina Swich tronic steerling wheel on my bmw and thats the same like the smg paadles bud not like the ssg paddle on the alpina you have only 2 wires and by the ssg paddle you have 3 wires

Hi

If you mean each paddle only has two wires, then 1 wire from each paddle is probably "Earth" and the paddle switch just connects the other to Earth to change gear. If thats the case then join both earths together and connect to the Steering Wheel's earth connector [ Not the Horn - Which looks like an Earth]. Then connect each of the other 2 wires to the middle 2 wires at the gear selector via the slip ring spare contacts as Dave and I have described earlier in the thread.

Hope this helps, but as I have no experience with about Alpina parts, it may completely different, so check everything out first before proceeding - Make sure you disconnect the battery and be careful with your multi-meter not to damage the ECU!!!!

Well I'm really happy to report that I'm getting used to using the paddles - only using D mode when I'm really lazy!

Brings the car to life!

My conversion cost me £400+ (I bought new parts) as I wasn't happy buying the stuff on ebay used - of dubious origin.....but it's been worth every penny.

their dave i have bought a bmw sport steerling wheel with paddles bud i have the same problem like you whit the bmw original pins . I don't have any 2 unused conecters. how do sould this problem can you show me this with pictures or diagrams???

Do you have two spare pins on the steering wheel side of the rotary coupler, in the black housing?

If so, trace these through the coupler to the connector block on the backside of the coupler - chances are they will come out in cavities 2 & 4 (from memory)

Simply neatly cut these wires and connect to your tails you have installed to the shift lever area.

These two, in cavities 2 & 4 were already in place on my car but absent on Alans.

The chances are they are there for the paddleshift function and *might* work but on the other hand they might not, without expensive coding at a stealer.

So after much deliberation, Alan & I decided to snip the wire and connect my two wires from the shift console area to these two wires.

The redundant ends of the wire were insulated and tucked away, safely.

Hi i have done this bud it doesn't work for the moment. It's that right that you have to buy a spicific steerling wheel control and a spicific paddles? I have bought a complete M3 E92 wheel witch ssg paddles and it doesn't work......

How many wires do you have coming from each paddle assembly?

Have you run a pair of wires from the back of the plug shown above where there are currently 2 yellow wires to the middle two from the gear selector in the centre console?

Also have you connected one wire from each paddle switch to earth and tested the earth with a multimeter? I am fairly certain IIRC the earth on mine was the middle of 3 wires from each paddle switch which I connected to the screw on the wheel where the brown earth wire for the airbag was connected. Make sure the airbag earth is still connected properly or you may get a warning light come on which as far as I know is only cancelled by a dealer for $£$£$!!

I thought it was pretty comprehensive as it was! Taking pics and then formulating them into a thread is a huge amount of work. I managed the job with just Alans pics and great advice.

Anyone doing this mod can either come to me and I'll help them for some beer tokens or I'll give online support.

No need for expensive $$$ looms either.

I fit flappys a few weeks ago by following this thread...there aint nothing wrong with it...if you need any help I can assist you...also Dave and Alan would prob be glad to help as they made the post!!!
