Up for sale is a well cared for 2003 540i M-Sport. This is a silver on black example with only two owners. The car was purchased from the original owner at 51,000 miles and driven for approximately 10 years and 140,000 miles. During our ownership the car has always been garaged and has never been driven in the winter. The car has been primarily used for commuting to work and highways trips to a second home. It has always been warmed up properly and never beaten on.

This vehicle has been serviced either by ourselves, the dealership or a reputable high end German shop. All recall items have been attended to and the vehicle will come with all services records and receipts. The car will also come with a cover.

There are a few items to mention, both good and bad. On the good side the car has a relatively new front bumper, the upper timing covers have been addressed, and the car has a brand new automatic transmission that was installed in September of 2016. The bad issues are that the car will eventually need cylinder valve seals which causes the car to burn a little bit of oil (small amount of oil smoke on startup.) The cup holders are in need of repair and the car also need the typical cluster replacement since many of the pixels are out.

There are many reasons for the sale but ultimately it’s that we have to thin the heard.

This car would be perfect for somebody who either can do the remaining work themselves or who has a good working relationship with a competent shop that can do the jobs. Or you could split the difference and just befriend a BMW master tech buy them pizza and beer and work together over the upcoming winter to get this car to 100%. (I’d vote for this )

So what’s the going rate for a 540i M-Sport with an above average interior/exterior with a brand new transmission that needs cluster work and cylinder valve seals worth? I’ve been watching BAT auctions and cars sold on CL and GCFSB and they’re all over the place depending on condition, mileage, and transmission type. I’m of the commonly held belief that if a car has a relatively new transmission then you keep putting money into it. The cost of the cluster and the valve seals job mostly cancels out the new transmission so essentially we’re left with a 540i M-Sport with 190k on it in above average mechanical and cosmetic shape. I’m asking $4,400 and if you can demonstrate that this car will be going to a good home I’ll give you 5-10% off.
