Michigan roads

Well, first they suck, and what's worse is that the state is so poor it believes that putting loose stones and passing it off as "paving" is a freakin' swell idea!

Damn, I'm sorry for ranting but those stones can't be good for my baby! Grr...

For those who live here, you can relate. Those who don't, well, count your blessings.

I hear ya man, I feel the same exact way. There are places I don't go or try to avoid as much as I can just because of how bad the roads are.

Last night I came across some of those roads and I went 20 (in a 55) until I was back in the clear.

The main reason I haven't upgraded to 19's - had them on my M3, and it was a daily struggle to manage commuting in Michigan

The roads are shitty after every winter and it seems like they fix it every year but it's still the same.

This thread reminds me of 14 years ago when I was offered a job in Michigan. I actually declined the job because I didn't want my BMW (E30 at the time) subjected to those roads. LOL. That was the mindset of a 20-something. However, I'm glad to this day I made that decision. Oh, and I recall Michigan folks telling me that car wouldn't make the winters there being rear-wheel drive unless I put sandbags in the trunk.

Those roads are terrible because of the salt erosion during those snowy winters. No win battle I guess.

Yea Michigan roads are horrible just about everywhere honestly. I live in Livonia, and the roads here in some parts of the city and in all the surrounding areas are just horrible. I have to drive to one of the worst parts of Detroit and I am more worried about the pot holes than getting robbed haha.

Must be summer in Michigan: the chip sealing has begun.

I spent the trip to work zigzagging to miss two separate areas.

Another Michigan phenomenon that makes us stronger!

There are only two seasons here, winter and construction. Both wreak havoc on the roads and on our cars.

The roads here eat wheels and make tires bubble up.

Michigan road stink. I can't say that Illinois or Indiana roads (my previous locations) are that much better though.

I used to live in Livonia and now live in Plymouth, so I can completely relate to Bavarian Made. I have the bumps of my commute memorized so I know when to swerve!

I wonder how many more years it will take Wayne County to fix Haggerty between 6 and 7. Wonderful Wayne County decided to do a patch job at 6 and Haggerty last week without any warning or signs. Just a complete rush hour cluster f*** while everyone tried to figure out what lanes were open.

At any rate, it hopefully won't be as bad with my e90 as it was with my Focus SVT 8-10 years ago. I bent 3 rims on that car...all of them in Dearborn, right by Ford offices. Did they not drive the car on MI roads before selling it?

WOW what are the odds of such a thread. I'm actually from SoCal but visiting Michigan this weekend to film drag racing (my job) and my LORRRRD, it's not bad it's HORRIBAD. We were driving from our hotel to the Milan drag way and we literally thought about driving on the dirt path next to the road, it looks a lotttt smoother than the road itself. I swear I need a kidney belt to drive here without having my internal organs all mixed up. And we're in a minivan, I can't imagine in a lowered vehicle on some nice 18-19" wheels. YEEESH!

Man I used to go to Schoolcraft College and I absolutely hated driving to school! At the time I had a CTS-V and I used to have a heart attack over every bump! Haha. Do you ever meet up with anyone from this area? I would love to do a meet and get to know some people.

I just got my e90 6 weeks or so ago...I haven't met anyone yet. Still enjoying the car

I drove a CTS-V wagon last December...fun, but I triggered the TC by going over bumps stupid MI roads. At any rate, the standard xi suspension handles the crappy roads better than the suspension of my old Saabaru while still maintaining enough feel, in my opinion. Either that or I'm getting old!

Gotta love the D.

The city council dingbats puts up a hissy fit and suspend $80M+ from the state. I'd say we are all lucky there are even plates down. I just take the wifey's Grand Cherokee WK2 down there, it's like off-roading most of the time anways

Thanks to Michigan roads I have had to replace 2 rims and 3 tires. I would have much rather just bought a meth kit or just kept my precious pennies.
