For galvanic corrosion to happen there has to be electrolyte solution between two dissimilar metals. Road salt mixed with rain, snow slush is one.
Because the bolt heads are pointing down in this case, the salted water will drain won't not stay. Also there is aluminum between the magnesium and the bolt's exposed head with these covers. That may be reducing the effect too.
The stainless steel bolts may have some plating on them that would reduce the contact and also corrosion as well, but it is not specified.

Overall it is better to use aluminum bolt, I think.
Thanks for that. I ordered a couple different aluminum bolts to try, the oem bmw ones (50mm) posted on the last page that would need some modification to work, and the 40mm ones I posted also. Definitely going to use aluminum bolts.

Is there a way to contribute to GM1912 tune in order to make it happen?

Few things need to happen,

1. Need to get the TCU to someone that can pull it apart, cut it loose from it's epoxy sarcophagus attach a BDM to read out the memory. Then some one needs to develop a way to bypass the RSA projection scheme. Probably end up bricking a few units in the process.
2. You then need to reverse engineer the program code and sort out the maps and functions to write custom tunes. Would be easier if a Damos or Al2 file was available but I've never seen one.

In short you are talking about hundreds of hours to crack, reverse engineer, create and then test new tunes. Just not worth the effort. Xhp has the resources but they've already come out and said they were not interested.

Reading the files isn't a problem (I think I already have a couple dumps, and in any case you can just export the .0pa/.0da files). The big problem is the program is compressed - there's no way to disassemble it unless you can figure out how to decompress the data. That makes an RSA signature bypass impossible, so unless you have a supercomputer that can brute force they key before the heat death of the universe, a custom calibration isn't happening.

I also don't own or know anyone with the GM trans, so I don't have much personal motivation to dedicate to it. Heck, I barely have time to work on my own car these days, lol.

you're free to flash the euro 330i tune yourself using WinKFP expert mode.

But is it available somewhere? How do I know if my GM1912 is supported?

If your car is 2008 or older the calibration from the x3 3.0si works very well. That's what I used when hass put it up. I haven't tried a zb from a euro 330i, would need to figure out which euro 330 has the same tcu and transmission and get a file from it

My car is 328i 2009/09 so I guess its not applicable to my transmission...

Alright, I gave this a shot today. Is it normal to get an error and then try again without making any changes and have it work? Happened with both the RSA Delete and the tune. For example:

Is there a working tune for a 2008 328xi N51 w/GM GA6L45R Automatic Transmission. I saw that bimmerlabs had one posted a few months ago but got taken down due to issues with certain aspects of this setup. Does the x3 3.0si tune work for this car?

Any suggestions would be appreciated! -Car also has 3-stage manifold.
Thanks!

Flash ZB: 7587776 in WinKFP, this is the X3 3.0si tune that Bimmerlabs had. They took it down since it doesn't work on every car, but they work on cars pre-2009 usually. You also need a Bimmergeeks cable, the cables offered on eBay and Amazon don't support flashing the GM trans.

Guys, for the MAF-less tune...

I can't find one in the project page for my 325i.

But if I use a 330i VIN, this appears as an option:

MSV70_S7623406_330i_NoMAF.0da

I assume it's fine to flash this to my 325i?

Won't work, already tried it. There will be a power class mismatch and you'll have an error code and reduced power.

I kinda wish for a noMAF tune for our cars but I'm already very happy with the 330i tune.

Hmm I’m pretty sure some other folks with 328s etc have used it… hassmaschine E92_William any ideas?

Never mind I tried searching again and saw upthread that it hasn’t been published for our cars.

I'm referring to using a tune meant for a 330i on a 325i. While the ECUs are the same, the powerclass is different, and I got the error code 2FA4.

The great thing about the 325i/328i-to-330i tunes is they have the powerclass check bypassed, at least from what I researched. There isn't a noMAF tune for 325i on bimmerlabs and flashing one meant for a 330i would cause the error mentioned above.

The 328i noMAF tunes would fine since they're meant for the 328i, and have that powerclass check bypassed.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, this is what I speculated.

At one point I thought I had gone through all the files and set the power checks off instead of just changing it to match the expected car. I don't remember if I did that for the 330i though.

So if I understand correctly, a 330i stock MAF Bimmerlabs tune for the MSV70 is the factory flash just with the powerclass check bypassed? Is anything else changed?

hass, I know back in 2020 you posted on the Bimmerlabs website that you might be working on a tune that worked on the n51. Is that still on the road map or was it abandoned?

Or, is there a possibility to copy the 330i tables to a 0da that works on the N51 DME?

I understand the major difference is lower compression, but I assume that the more aggressive fueling/timing/vanos/etc tables from a 330i would be safe. (Even if it left more power on the table)

Maybe I'm oversimplifying it but just a thought.
