Yeah I purely liked the Dinan for aesthetics before anything else. I suppose the only real outcome I would like from something like pod filters would be to hear more induction/spool sound. I'm certainly not opposed to keeping it stock though, just more money to spend on other bits

To the OP.....I purchased my 2009 E93 in space gray with 78k on it. It was 1k miles away from me. Flew down and the FIRST thing I did before leaving for home was to replace the run flat tires!!! The run flats are indeed straight trash in my opinion. Makes me slightly nervous not having a spare, and 2 weeks after I got it home I picked up a bolt in the rear driver side tire. Luckily it was a slow leak and I was able to limp it into the closest tire shop for repair. But for half the price of the run flats you can pick up a superior tire.

Hahahaha, I was the same - cammed, tuned, 400rwhp VE Calais. Loved the sound, not too loud when driving normally, bit lumpy at idle, but barked like mad when you gave it a boot.

Wow. I thought i was alone is not being a fan of dual cones. The mounting setup basically hanging off the end of the intake tubes is also a bit ordinary. Dinan looks really good though.

Hey guys, looking for some clarification on two things.

1. I've enquired about walnut blasting given that my car is 10 years old and just over 100xxxks. I have been quoted $895. I'll be honest, that's quite a bit more than I had expected - but I will openly say I am not across all the work required to achieve the outcome. But, any input/feedback on that is appreciated.

2. BOV's. I'm looking to buy a Turbosmart Race Port but I just want to identify which is the correct part. I'm picking up a BMS Elite Charge Pipe with the 50mm Tial flange. The Two Turbosmart BOV's (from my research) are a standard 'universal', and the other is the Female 'No Weld' flange designed for 'Tial Q Weld'. Whilst the first option is 'universal', the latter specifically mentions the Tial Q flange.. cue my uncertainty. Any clarity on this is really appreciated.

$895 US is what you were quoted? I'm new to this too. If it is indeed $895 US that's almost double what I've been quoted for the job! I'd keep looking if I were in your shoes.

I have nothing for you on the BOV question. I recently purchased my ARM charge pipe WITH the Tial BOV. I'll leave that for someone much more knowledgeable then myself.

As I mentioned the inlet manifold has to come off to do the ofhg, and the valve clean. That's much of the cost of the walnut blast

I was also quoted $1500AUD to replace pretty much all the seals/gaskets - oil pan, rocker cover, OFHG etc. etc. - I think I better become very mechanically handy very quickly!! (I already have all the seals) $$$

There’s a fair bit of work involved in replacing seals as I mentioned
The walnut blast you need the gear otherwise you can do it chemically.
The rest is strait forward and can be done with standard tooling(torx sockets and so on)

Aus335. I have watched lots of videos on the chemical cleaning. It really doesn't compare. You use quite a bit of chemical, have to take the manifold off anyway. I have seen a few easy diy blaster kits on the internet. I recon I might put a kit together to share around Sydney for a case of beer a weekend. You need a decent compressor. Here is one from left field. Has anyone ever substituted salt for walnuts? I know it does a pretty good job of knocking off rust.

New wheels arrived today, which was a surprise, didn't get a call or a message from the courier but they were sitting on my front step when I got home from work.. at least it was a nice surprise. Obviously the first thing I did was jack the car and try to fit them before getting out of my work clothes - alas, the stockies appear to be.. seized.. on the hub. I'm going to need a bigger hammer... Once I get it sorted pictures will follow, although if you can't wait you may as well just check out Sockets build, they were his rims

Although the high of the rims was somewhat tempered with the low of my first yellow cog. I got a 'transmission temperature' warning - which at the time didn't seem absurd, it was 34 degrees out and traffic was a bit stop start, so I didn't think much of it. However, fast forward 8 hours and I was driving down the highway tonight, doing 100 with the outside temp around 21 and I got another cog. That one was a bit more concerning. Short of mounting an aftermarket transmission oiler cooler, is there anything I should check on in the immediate future?

What is the service history of the gearbox?

I know with the auto that there is a procedure for checking the fluid level of the box. If you were driving sedately, surely it should not be getting hot enough to throw a code?

Mine is only an auto, but a new pan, filter and fluid made a noticeable difference in shift quality and the old fluid was almost black. Maybe confirm fluid level or just do the full service? It was pretty straight forward.

I've got it booked in this week for a whole bunch of preventative maintenance work, so maybe I should just add the gearbox to that list while it's up on the hoist.. I've noticed a little bit of shunting as well coming to a stop and have been doing a bit of reading on that as well. The more I externalise my thinking the more it sounds like I should have the box looked at.

Thanks guys, I really like them. I actually don't mind the 225's but these definitely are a statement/have some stance about them. Unfortunately, they don't fit, yet. There was an 'undriveable' amount of scrubbing in the rears and I have since had the guards rolled. I would now call the situation 'driveable' but not 'desirable'. Only really shitty bumps in the road are now causing it to rub and only lightly. I think the next step is to run a little more -ve camber to see if that'll give just enough clearance.

Finally got MOST of the preventative work done through the week thanks to the guys at Advan. Rocker cover, sump, OFHG seals and serpentine belt. I also took the opportunity to have a walnut blast done. The before and after photos are just awesome and there really is a warm and fuzzy feeling now about the car being able to 'breath' properly.

Last job this morning was fitting up the H8 LEDs to get rid of that real 'candle power' vibe in the rings.
