Trouble connecting bluetooth to car AND aux adapter

My Pixel XL has no issues connecting to the BMW BT unit. However, I typically (not always) have to manually the phone to my Firefly BT adaptor plugged into my AUX input. It's kind of a PITA. Any suggestions?

This has only been available in the last 6 months.
It's kind of like a affordable Dension Gateway 500 s.
