Best place to buy replacement mirror assembly?
Got an alignment at dealer today and they operated the folding mirrors... which I never do anymore because it took me forever to get my passenger-side mirror to click into the correct position. I guess I should have cut the wire, but I didn’t and it’s too late now.
Anyway, I’ve fought with this thing for the past two hours and no matter what I do it won’t stop at the correct position. I’ve drilled a hole and lubricated but still—nothing. I can hold the mirror in place and force it to stop where I want it to, but then it kinda flops around and isn’t tight in place as it should be. At this point I’m over it. Any suggestions on where to buy replacement? I called a local parts yard that “specializes” in BMW... When I asked how much, the guy said “$250 bro.” LOL! F*ck that. All that really comes to mind is eBay. It’s a pre-LCI. TIA

I can't answer your question but I feel your pain. I fiddled with my mirrors for two hours with drilling, spraying lubricant, tapping, trying the reset procedure. Eventually I got my passenger side mirror to work perfectly but the drivers side is just 1/4" past where it should be stopping, though it's solid and I can easily get the mirror glass adjusted so I can see behind me. I'm afraid to touch it again.
I'm looking forward to the responses. I checked two cars at the junkyard with folding mirrors and they were also not working properly. |

The only DIY I found that looks like a proper fix involves welding, sooo.... I might go check out a generic parts yard where the assembly will cost me $30 instead of the laughable $250 I was quoted today. tlow98 Thanks for the suggestion of car-part. I’ve used in the past with success so I’ll check it out again.

Spray a bunch of rust penitrant on it and let it sit overnight. I thought I had mine fixed and then the car wash moved it. Soaked it and fiddled with it for quite some time and all the sudden the pin moved and locked in place. Then I cut the wire again.

I found a good price on ebay from the EU for both assemblies, they came almost mint. My old mirror glass had failed dimmers, the housings were stone chipped and they never folded properly like yours. Now everything's functional again.
If you do replace, just make sure you match options, 5 pin vs 3 pin connectors is the easiest way to tell for sure. If I remember correctly, 5 pin was the "base" version and 3 pin was the optioned out version (self dim, heat, memory, folding). |

Not sure if the components can be used in your pre-LCI mirror. I have only used it for the glass replacement, so I haven't test the folding function. If someone can tell me, which pins operate it, I can hook it up to 12V and test. |

I’ll look into it... I suspect not sadly, but I’ll see if it’s possible.

where in canada are you? Best scrap yard ive been to as far as pricing is kenny-u-pull. You have to pull the parts yourself but the prices are solid. Around 30$ for the mirror.

Sadly I don’t think they would work for me... I could probably get them physically mounted, but then I’d have to get mirror caps painted most likely as the LCI mirrors are larger as you know. Also the electrical though I’m not positive on that front. I do really appreciate the mention though. Calgary. I don’t think we have them here
