cool vid. I wish they did some more extensive testing though. Not just going around in circles and trying to dodge penguin dolls.

Actually, frogman... it is. By the way, you are so smart.

And a lot of the guys here, are magazine racers. That's a cool hobby, that I don't do.

I had 3 Acura’s, two of them TL's. First was a 2002 TL-S and second a 2004 TL Auto. They are nice cars without question, but not comparable (stock) to the 330i Sport Package I drive today.
From body roll, to steering response and feedback, the 330 is a borderline sports car, while the TL is a borderline grocery getter.
If you have kids and still like to drive in luxury, the TL is a great car at a reasonable price. If you sometimes think you can travel back in time if you go fast enough, you are a born BMW driver.

Haha! That's a good one!
I'm always running late going somewhere, so I try to make up for lost time by driving faster...

I'm about to revive this thread...it's been like 6 years so there should be more 330's and more stories out there other than these old ones. So a friend just got a 06 TL base (not the type R so I won't believe a 0-60 below 5.9 I know that for sure) and I want to know what to expect if a proposition to drag comes up. There's a lot of debate between us now lol also a friend just got a 2012 V6 Accord Sedan. It's a grey sky when our 330's are competing with those. Anyone else have anymore experiences versus a TL or anything of the sort?

But, when I test drove my 330, I knew this was the one for me. It handles better and I definitely felt more secure in the twisties which I drive through on a regular basis. Coming out of a turn in the TL, my steering wheel will suddenly tweak depending on how much gas I'm putting in. The stick on my 330 is quicker and cleaner than the stick in the TL. The TL has too much slop and I've still never found the correct engagement point of the clutch for clean and fast shifts. I don't have that problem in the 330. The TL is a definite family sedan and has, for the price, better accessories than the 330. The touch screen nav and the ability to store your own address book is a plus though you have to manually add everything. My 330 w/iDrive is great, but I miss the touchscreen and the ability to change stations w/presets. Also, though the 330 downloads my phonebook directly from my phone, I had to give up a good Nokia 6280 and switch to a Motorola SLVR for that to happen. I prefer my Nokia. In the end, the 330xi is mine and the TL is my dad's. AND, I'm glad I'm the owner of the 330xi. Heck, my dad, who currently owns a 98 735iL (or is it a 740? i forget.) is looking at maybe eventually trading in the TL for another BMW. Hope this helps.
I have a 330xi and I came to conclude it may not feel as fast as the TL because for one..bmw's are quieter on the inside but also because it's an XI..when you floor it on a TL (FWD) you feel the front end lift, kind of gives a placebo effect that it feels faster and its louder on the inside. Also the XI suspension is very loose, I just put KW's on it, it feels a hell a lot tighter when I punch it. The only scenario I can see imagine a 330 is losing is if its an 330XI because its 200lbs heavier then a RWD 330i.

I had a TL. Torque steer sucks, and no matter what anyone else says, 0-60 is very low 6's. I'd take the 330 all day.

Had both a 330 & TL 6MT's at the same time; the 330 was a bit quicker but if you mess up the TL can win. A new 6MT V6 Accord coupe is quicker then either of them.

BTW if you understand drag racing that front end lift is a bad thing in a FWD & a good thing in a RWD.

I drove a new Accord V6 with an MT a few weeks ago. It is a very good car and was a lot of fun to drive.

I heard the new 2013 V6 Accords are doing 0-100 in under 6s. That is a big improvement for sure.

I would be hard pressed to see a 06 TL base beat a 06 330i.

Are you talking automatic? I believe Honda has claimed 5.9 second 0-60 for most of their V6 6MT since 2003.

awesome thread bump.

had an '05 TL AT w/Nav.

The only thing I miss is the vtec growl. Twitchy at high speed, go cart ride, holy torque steer with snows (which didn't help).

What about the TL with SH-AWD, feels like a RWD but with more traction thru the turns.

My daily is a '06 6MT TL w/nav. Only mod: factory sport suspension, since the stock is a joke. Between a E9X 330 and TL (both stock), it's a driver's race IMO.

With that said, RWD>FWD and the BMW is a better driver's car by a mile. Though, the Honda NAV is superior.

I bought my TL barely used in 07 b/c I needed a car I could rack 30k miles a year on at 25+ MPG, carry people and stuff comfortably, enjoy nice tech and not deal with failures. Mission accomplished - it's probably the most reliable car I've ever owned (and I've had 15 or so) Now that I drive 16miles a day the TL will be going away, hopefully this week

Is this TL a Auto or 6MT

Back in 06 when I was shopping I test drove the new 330i and TL at the time and felt the 330i was quicker than the TL AFTER 60mph and kept going strong even after 100mph vs the TL started run out of steam after 100 because of poor gearing.

I purchased a TL because I could not afford the 330i with options I wanted. I was able to get a fully loaded TL with Nav for half the cost.
Now, mine was an Auto not the 6MT. 6MT should be a better fight and for comparison purposes I race a buddy with a 6MT to see if it was that much faster and it pulled a good 2 car lenghts on me from 40-100.
