For me, being 17, I run a little iPhone/MacBook repair business (If anyone ever needs a good deal and you live on Long Island feel free to PM me

I paid most of the car and insurance for 2007 328xi with 78k on it. Got it for 16,900 out the door. I love every second of driving it, it runs great and I couldn't be happier.

My parents would rather me get unpaid internships than waste time working somewhere where I will never get anywhere, even if I am making a couple of bucks... there just isn't as much time do have a full time, low-paying job and do well at an amazing higher educational institute.

I was asked to explain myself when I first joined, and I seemed to have won over most of the older populous of e90post, so I'm not going to explain myself again. Some are lucky, some aren't as lucky... my parents didn't have to give me anything, but they felt proud (and they have damn high standards for me).

An a**hole is going to be an a**hole whether he has a 10 year old civic or a brand new BMW. Money may be a factor, but its not the car you drive that makes you what you are, it's how you were raised...
You deserved these excessive gifts? Is that what it takes to get kids to work hard these days?

This thread is pointless by the way, and it's kind of off topic anyway.

Let's simplify this "issue"- some of us have worked very hard and built a life (college, career, home, family) and have managed to make a BMW make fiscal sense. It's been a long uphill battle, but we've made it.

Others have simply been given what they have by their parents, or by their parents support in other aspects of their lives (live at home past 20 years old, parents paid for college, etc).

I have no problem with the latter, until they talk down on some of us that we "only" have 4-year old 328s, or such. Just be humble and realize how you got to drive this great car- and be grateful.

Also, bragging about graduating high school is a bit short-sighted. It's a fairly easy accomplishment. What matters most is how you live after your childhood.

My dad made a bunch of money. His money not mine. I never earned his money. Good for you... The kids that gets dads checkbook. I'm 37 now and really look the other way when this happens. I find it to be poor patenting. Then again my dad never let me fuck my girlfriend under his roof,, he used to to say that is disrespectful. Now I get it. Go out and get your own and some things are meant to be earned not given IMO.

It varies. In-state public universities (the cheapest besides community colleges) are usually about $20k a year with room/board. Out of state public universities are $30-$40k. Very good private universities range from about $40-$65k a year. We do have a lot of scholarship opportunities, but we are forced to take out student loans unless we have wealthy parents.

So yeah us Americans have it pretty hard.

$50k/yr is pretty standard these days, but the thing is that basically nobody ACTUALLY pays that straight up. If you can't easily afford it, there's nearly always need-based financial aid, and if you can, there's very often merit-based that you're still perfectly capable of getting. There's definitely a demographic who makes the cut for admission, yet ends up getting no financial aid and (generally relatively rich) parents pay the full sticker price, but most places I know that group can't be more than maybe 5% of the student body.

Of course, it's still wildly more than 6k/yr any way you slice it .

I pay 386$/month for a 3 1/2 y-o car. A lot cheaper than a fully equipped new car. For example a Mazda3 GT is 557$/month ( x 60 m.) That's why I bought my BMW 2 years ago.

Maybe its just me being an old guy from a different time but I don’t think its anybody's business how someone manages to afford a car or afford anything else.

Just watched a race on TV where 35 or 40 mostly non-pro drivers flogged brand new $250K+ Ferraris around the Daytona road course. At least half a dozen stuck them into the wall, tire barriers or each other. Some drivers were pretty young some pretty old, thing is there are a lot people with money who can spend it any way they want including giving their kids nice cars.

A lot of us were not brought up in that environment, I lived in the projects till high school, but there is no reason to get bent out of shape on how people choose to spend what they have or what they choose to give their kids.

Don't want to generalize but typical science student lol.

Most of my science friends have (or they claim) too much school work to look for a part-time job. I guess pharmacy is definitely no exception.

Nah. My best friend is in his final year of pharmacy school and works 2 jobs while attending. Because his parents aren't paying for it, and his wife and house require he work. He decided after a few years in the business world that he wanted to go back to school and become a pharmacist.

Of course, he drives a 2010 Jetta and not a car he really can't afford.

Anyone who says they can't pay for their own shit through hard work just isn't motivated enough.

Why was this thread even made,it's pointless. Its only going to attract young adults (or kids I shall say) to brag about having a used entry level luxury car, that's it. And who the f**k brags about having a car anyway, especially a used one, that's just childish! The worst part is that most of the the younger guys lease, finance or have there parents pay for the car. Thats cool if you fall into that catagory but i know if i fell into that catagory i wouldn't be bragging, hell, I wouldn't even have the car, because if you can actually afford a bmw you pay cash. Bragging about material items shows that you think of yourself as having little to no value. We need to get "THE MODS" to create a new section of the forum for the kids or something because it seems like a thread like this pops up every week. And I'm not an older person in my thirties picking on the 16-24 crowd, I'm actually in that crowd I just wanted to give people my age my point of view. If you live at home or are renting, and you financed, leased, or your parents are paying or helping pay for your car DONT SAY ANYTHING, instead you should MAN UP, get out of your parents house, buy your own (house), and the pay cash for your own shit.

These threads appear almost every week, and so many people flame each other. I simply don't understand why some of you guys appear to be mad, or in many ways jealous of a lot of the younger folk who didn't pay for their cars. Personally, If I was a parent and had a kid as obsessed with cars as I am, I would definitely be willing to buy him/her a nice car.

I don't see why any of you guys are caring whether people are in college, live with their parents, or even if they financed or leased their car. In fact, the only people that are even going to say anything are people looking to brag and show off. This kind of posting will hopefully die off as the E90 ends up aging and taking the place of the E46 as a used, sporty enthusiasts car.

Since i lived in Saudi Arabia as a foreigner. I found this very rich kid that wanted to sell his 335i (the type that changes cars every month) .

After we met up i kinda convinced him that i will hook him up with chicks since he was Saudi and only foreigners can go to desegregate american high schools.

So basically he sold the car to me at a very cheap price. and now i shipped the car to Lebanon for college . I've had the car for 2 years

sorry guys I dont mean to "brag" or anything of the sort about the car... I was just curious to see how people are paying for their car, considering it is, or should be, the second most expensive thing you pay for. I sincerely do apologize for any conflicts that arrise from this topic I was not intending to do that.

That's a tough field, they'll get to 90-100k in no time, but very few who work in pharmacies actually like it. They are taught to upsell products and work strange hours and deal with angry customers and insurance. Clinical trials is better, pharmacology etc.

Yes, I did. And how is that stupid, I had the money and my other priorities (condo) were 80% paid off so I bought it, simple as that. I don't finance WANTS and I don't like being in debt for anything other than a place to live. But hey, everyone priorities are different.
