Not liking the squared off wheel arches.

And the front is too upright, blunt and dumpy looking. Find some finesse here.

The rest of it - pretty nice.

As for engines, most sources are pointing to the same engines as the 1 series in their perspective markets. I like the pics, I think they did a good job with it, we will see it in the metal soon.

That is also the perfect size for what I need/want.

Check out that design video on the first link, this thing sits really low. Larry is right, more of a wagon or crossover. I still like it though, hopefully it will make it handle that much better.

Ehh...I think you'll come around Larr. It looks fanatastic IMHO. I'm glad that it dosent appear to come off ''cute'' or ''girly'' in any sense. I hope they fit it with those wide tires often seen on X5's and what not.

That pushed-in nose is quite ugly and the wheel wells make no sense. Looks aside though, what's going to make this sink or swim is the price and the mileage. Any guesses based on the X3? Remember, X3 sales tanked in 08.

Well, as the resident Yellow lover here, I have to say, I like the little bit of car peeking out from behind the cover on the teaser vid much better than that gold/mustard yellow on the concept drawing. Hopefully the car in the teaser is a real car.

I actually don't mind this. I've already scuffed under my bumper on Calgary's crappy roads. And every once in a while my mind drifts to something with a taller ride height.. though I'm not a fan of big SUV's. This, on the other hand, is a nice form factor.

And it will probably have a manual transmission as an option!

Click on Scotty's links on his post this AM, these are actual pictures of that car. So that color is most likely the same color as in the first video.

I'm not impressed. I wouldn't say it's ugly, more bland. Maybe that awful color isn't helping me. Edmunds is saying it's unlikely we will get that in the U.S. due to exchange rates and BMW having a difficult time being able to bring it in at a good price.

I was hoping for a base around 34k, sounds like they wouldn't be able to hit that. Oh well, the Rav4 is a good car too, might just have to stick with that.

looks a hell of a lot better when you see the video of the real thing compared to those concept photos. really surprised at the mention of it not coming over to US shores.. i would think that's a prime target market

It was the prime target market.
And then the whole house of cards started coming down.
exchange rate
gas prices
credit crisis
recession

Unless you're relasing an amazingly inexpensive car that get's 60 mpg, it's a terrible time to be an automaker.

Here's a photo of the real thing. It's pretty much just a "concept car" and has no interior at this point. Based on the limited way this car has been presented, it may be quite a while before it makes it to the marketplace - IF it makes it to the marketplace. It's a huge monetary commitment to go to production and this market segment is doing poorly. Contrast this to the Honda Insight which was also shown in Paris and you get the sense of what's hot and what's an example of bad timing.

Surprisingly not bad.

This is probably the first vehicle in the whole crossover class that I could ever see myself owning.

I am actually looking into the volvo sc60 now if I decide to go upscale, depending on if and when bmw brings this to market.

Volvo is planning on a turbocharged inline 6 for the powerplant, and I really like the interior and design.

/\ Looks pretty good. Much better than the X3, that's for sure.

For years it was the American laws messing up car designs, now it is the EU trying to make it safe to drive into pedestrians....I'm just glad it isn't our fault this time.
