P1056 limp Sensor or Eccentric Motor?

Hey All,

Have a stored P1056 code along with no revs, rough idle and little to no throttle response. Car runs but will not drive. Have no access to BMW scan tool so trying to diagnose based on this p1056 vvt low voltage code. Question is is there a way to test the eccentric shaft actuator motor electrically to confirm or eliminate it as the issue? I know the sensor is much more common, just trying to eliminate the motor as faulty before I dive into the sensor replacement...? If I unplug either while the car is running nothing changes... fuse and relay test fine, power is coming from battery.

Any help here???, dont want to replace the sensor only to find it was the actuator motor.
