UPDATE:

just got the car back with a 67k mile motor and turbos. Here's the first log, ran on 93 oct and map 5. Figured i'd take advantage of the experts on this post, so how does everything look?

Just got a couple pieces of very bittersweet news.

First, the turbos that came with the new motor are blown and smoking, so there is another 3k gone to getting new turbos put in.

Next, the mechanic at my shop ran the VIN on my car and found out that the HPFP recall was never done. Very, very sad day.

that sucks. I tried to tell you in your other topic, labor is so much it is worth just getting new ones if the motor gets switched.

You going with OEM ones or something aftermarket? I got mine from getbmwparts.com. I kind of wish I had looked into Dinan ones more. They have an upgraded waste gate and I would trust Dinan's quality over some of the other aftermarkets. I don't think they were too much more than OEM.

hey look at it this way....you blew your motor(glad it wasn't me) and learned from it, slap some new hexs on there

Being able to do these things yourself goes a long way for saving cash and pushing the cars. Motor swap is easy enough and turbos. Just very time consuming and you need to push through until complete.

I see how fake news started. By the end of that blog you would’ve thought the engine was blown. Lol I had to slap my self back to logic. Homey just had to perform a service or two..repl hpfp/leaky injector.

Hope you made the right decision homey. Next time, we should remove the oil fill cap..engine running... and peep what blowby you see coming out

It’s blogs like these that misrepresent the n54.

Finished the pull, slowed down, and the car felt messed up. Rough sounding, stuttering, SES but no reduced power message on the iDrive. Pull over and the car is definitely misfiring. Pop the hood and immediately notice oil was blown through the filler cap back towards the firewall. The car was also smoking as if bad turbo seals, but nothing insane (couldn't tell what color because it was dark). Pull codes on JB4 and got a misfire code for cylinder 2 and a 02 lambda code. Car also sounds like it's knocking when standing beside it. I made ano executive decision to limp it another ~1 mile to a friend's house and it drove/sounded decent. Misfiring obviously but not really knocking lIke I thought it would be. Just sounded like a really loud lifter tick, and even then you had to actually listen to notice it.

Blown or nah? Thanks in advance guys.

Backstory on car:
2007 E90 335i 6mt
124k miles
Original turbos that smoke like crazy
1 qt oil every ~1000-1500 miles
(Depending on my driving habits)

JB4 Map 7 12.5 gallons E85 (w/ E60 flash)
Catless DP's
BMS intakes
Walbro 450
CP/BOV
That's a lot of oil per miles.

Haha, I forgot about my post from 2015.

Funny enough, I just had Index 12 injectors installed last week. Needless to say, that fix was more than 1500 just for the injectors lol

Still going strong though. 10 years 91k miles.

Um, no actually that's NOTHING for an n54 - barely broken in. Tons with 250+ even 300k tuned and running great... these motors are SOLID but no motor can endure bad tuning and such.

Guys these are all reasons why I went the METHANOL route instead of E85 - too many variables! Percentage this, false labeled content level that - just put in a meth kit already! It's got all kinds of failsafes built in, and it'll add more meth if neeeded like if all you can find is 91. it's wonderful!

Plus you only use it when you NEED to, unlike with E where you're using it all the time. I go through a tank like once every 3 months. And it's super easy to mix. It also cools A LOT and even cleans the intake valves! Wohooo
