Arrow Any tips for a new guy getting a BMW

Hi , im searching to get a bmw 2nd hand , preferably the e92 320D , im new to these as i only had Hondas so now its time to change heh ..currently i found 2 models with not more then 60k miles

I wish to know what do you think about the e92 and maintence , i will use the car as a daily , and i wish to know the MPG becuase i saw they do like 50 - 60 mpg while some other people say they do 40mpg...the other thing people told me is about the timing chain they have, which when it need to be replaced it costs alot and its need to be changed at 100,000 miles or kilometers i dont know exactly and also with the clutch..

I live in a small country so to go to work or even a place in less then 10min ill get there so it will be used for short distances , any kind of review or help is well appreciatted. thanks

Check the maintenance history, buy CPO if possible, make sure all previous owners kept up on scheduled services. It's a diesel so all of the mechanics should be fine at 60k miles. MPG really depends on your driving style, tires, etc but 45-55 isn't unreasonable. When the clutch needs to be replaced also depends on how you drive. You could go 100k miles on a clutch or burn it out at 50k miles if you do burnouts etc. I don't know a lot about the 320d because we don't get that model in the U.S. but diesels are known to run for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Get a good ppi and have some $ set aside for when it breaks. They're great cars but they will break and when they do break they are expensive to repair. I'm not sure about the diesel but the petrol motors will lose the water pump just after 60k and that'll be $1200 usd to repair.

Just sign up for the 12 step program instead. It is less painful. ;-)

A new water pump is about $300 online and is a DIY item.
