Problems with Riss downpipes?
Hello,
I am considering buying a set of Riss downpipes from a private seller, but I am wondering if he's selling them because there were problems with them. I had heard that some of the earlier versions had installation/fitment issues (touching/vibrating pipes) and that's why Riss re-designed their pipes. Has anyone had any experiences like this? Thanks in advance for your help! |

One of my dp's were too short so I had to weld a 1/4 inch piece of pipe into my exhaust to extend it... But they are great and you will love them

I've had rubbing/vibration issues with the RR catless DPs. The space we have to work with around the DPs is VERY limited.
There's was also fitment issues that lead to rubbing/vibration. It is felt only at lower RPMs when around 2k or under. IMHO, just get the newly designed RR DPs, unless you want to deal with POSSIBLE fitment/rubbing/vibration issues.

My only questions is, if the RR catless DPs are mass produced and not custom, then why is it that some fits fine but others have issues with rubbing/vibration (myself for example)?
I've also had Rassmusson BMW look at the install job by another shop, and there was nothing wrong except the rubbing/touching of the DPs against the heat-shield? When I was having this issue, I was letting RR know about this. First, they were like, oh ya, if you are still having issues with the fitment, we'll be more than willing to swap out the newly designed DPs with the ones I'm having issues with. According to them, they've installed numerous sets of DPs on 335s and had maybe one or two issue that had something to do with the rubbing/vibration, which was similar in my case. Then when I really tried to press on them in swapping them(days later), the answer I got was, What are we going to do with the set of used DPs? We can't sell them....... So I went ahead and asked them why they decided to redesign the catless DPs, they had told me it was because they thought the newly designed DPs are better/easier for those that wants to install it themselves.......WTF? Anyway, there's no need to mention any names, but if anyone from RR reads this post, they know what and who I'm talking about.......

That's funny....that's exactly what they did to me...practically word for word.... First, for whatever reason, they tried to say that I had bought the pipes over a year ago...even though my credit card statement proved that I bought them in February... after that excuse held no water... then, they told me they must have been installed wrong...so I had the mechanic that installed them call Riss...for those of you who are in the know, they were installed by ASR Engineering in Miami...a very high-end, very experienced shop...they work exclusively on BMW's, Porsche's, Benz's (if you're interested you can look them up, their cars speak for themselves)...this isn't some mickey mouse exhaust shop...they know what they're doing Well after telling ME that it was a bad install, they told ASR that they (RISS) were aware of fitment issues and that's why they re-designed the pipes... They then told ASR to have me call RISS back...which I did and they told me nearly verbatim what they told cstmx...that they were more than willing to swap out the old ones for the new "re-designed" pipes... they even went so far as to offer me a free oil catch can for the trouble...so fine, I waited....and waited....and called...and waited....and e-mailed...and waited...meanwhile they kept giving me the run around telling me that all of the ones they had in stock were already "spoken for" and had been shipped out ....so I kept waiting patiently, and as weeks, then MONTHS went by with me periodically calling/e-mailing trying to find out when they were FINALLY going to take care of the problem as promised (during which I'm driving a beautiful German luxury sports car that sounds like a rattling old souped up Honda) I finally tried to press them on it...they decide to tell me that "after further consideration"....there's nothing wrong with the pipes they sent me...and again it was a bad install.... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Unfortunately I am now in the middle of a credit card dispute with them...and you wouldn't believe the BS they are telling my credit card company...that I am just trying to get a set of their new designed pipes for free... no, I simply want a set that doesn't make my car sound like it's falling apart when I drive it... As a company they are doing a tremendous business, and there are so many posters who are very happy with their product...I simply can't fathom why they would treat myself and cstmx_ryder like that...it is just bad business, they can easily resolve the problem but chose instead to stick it to us for some unknown reason.... ASR will gladly verify all that I am stating here...this has been an extremely disappointing and dissatisfying experience to say the least Just a little caveat for those of you considering their product.... |

Very pathetic to hear. The even sadder part is that they had to use the funds from their original group buy to create the first flawed version...
