The Lexerd anti-glare film does work OK, maybe a bit better than OK. After two previous attempts, I was able to apply with minimal bubbles and edge buckling. The scratches are significantly less noticeable, and it looks better than before, albeit a few minor bubbles under the new film.

I plan to trade this car in after another two years. If the dealer tries to discount my trade due to the iDrive screen ($2800 repair).....
Why exactly should BMW warranty your thick hands scratching the iDrive screen? Because it's prone to scratching?

I used a microfiber cloth that I use on my eyeglasses. My eyeglasses are even more resistant to scratches that the BMW navi screen.

If the anti-glare film on the screen is knowingly so sensitive to scratches, then my dealer should have had the courtesy to warn me, and a step better, design a screen that isn't so sensitive. I had two Acuras with navis before this car, with touch screens, that never had a scratch on them in seven years of ownership.

Same goes for the navi on my 2011 Q5, no issues.

Design a more robust product, or have the courtesy to alert owners not to touch their navigation screen if not.

I finally had the navi screen checked by the dealer and they said they couldn't repair it through the warranty but who ever checked the screen actually made it worst... Agh, I didn't get to call or go back to let the know.

Hopefully I can find a replacement screen that's cheaper then what BMW wants.

TomTom,

that is horrible looking compared to the first one. Why didn't you say anything prior to picking up the car?

To be completely honest, I figured since they weren't going to repair it since it was a "scratch", it didn't make a difference how large the scratch was. So I left.

But I called earlier and scheduled an appointment to have the service manager take a look at it and I'll be sure to let him know its worst now that the service tech took a look at it. I'll get the before/after photos printed just in case.

TomTom, did you buy a high quality anti-reflective screen protector for it? You might spend a bit more money, but there's a better chance the cut will be better.

Not yet, I'm mainly concerned about the repair cost since the car is a lease.

If they dont fix it, I really hope I can find a replacement display for cheap(er).

I would still try it - if the fit is very good where the protector is almost not noticeable, it's worth a shot during turn-in.

It's always good to think outside the box. I think this will hide your scratches and protect your screen from getting anymore. Buy an invisible shield for an ipad 1 (no camera holes) from Best Buy. Make sure to get the regular one not the HD or smudge proof. Use a paper cutter or some scissors to accurately cut it to the same dimensions as the i-Drive screen. Install it!

Customers always bring ipads scratched to hell and when we install the invisible shield most if not all of the scratches are no longer visible. If I had i-Drive I would have tried this a long time ago but if it doesn't work for you, you only lost $35 compared to buying a new screen. You can try to bring the lease back with the shield already installed Good luck!

I took the car back to the dealer to have a few things checked out and while I was there I asked for a quote on repairing the navigation screen.

I received a quote for $2100. I really need to find an alternative. Anyone have any ideas?
My lease is over in April, so I need to get this fixed before then (or pay the 2K).

Why not get a 2nd hand screen off ebay and replace it? Should cost at most 600.

Never thought about that. Thats much better then 2K. I'll just have to figure out what the model of my display is.

EDIT: Checked RealOEM and I believe it's #65829224346

I've found quite a few 8.8" displays on eBay but none with my part number. I'll need to do some research and figure out the difference between the models.

You can easily unscrew the display (held by two torx screws the the dash, on top), pull it out, and take a look at the part number to make sure.

You need the CIC screen for sure, some of those on ebay are the CCC screen, for an earlier generation. Did realoem show that your part # has been superseded? If so, using a more recent one would most likely work too.

always inspect your car BEFORE leaving the dealer... on my old infiniti...their car wash scratched the hell out of my bumper and i didnt notice until a week later when i drove it to a store. Also bmw switched my tires around no mention of it i had to ask why and if they did it on purpose or put them back on wrong.

People suck so double check, if u made a stink i bet they would have repaired it for nothing since they made it worse than it was.

Any idea if the screen in the picture you provided is the screen present in BMW part # 65829224346?

As per the seller the LCD screen is a direct replacement for the current BMW one. He did NOT confirm that the anti-glare is included. I can only suggest you contact the seller. You maintain your main unit so no coding required.

The anti-glare blue coating will be included, because this seller sells new original LCD screens.

Please add your contact information. You only have 1 post so no one can message you.

Also, the seller has all sale Private so any buyer can not be contacted to confirm the quality of the screens. I did e mail the seller and asked specifically if it came with the BLUE anti-glare screen but I received no reply.
