eBay cone intake filters

Would you guys install them?

I've had my BMS DCI intakes for 5 years now, even after cleaning them, they are just filthy. Time for new filters and I don't feel like spending $70 on filters with a brand name.

eBay has plenty no brand intake filters with same dimension but how well do them perform?
Looks exactly the same. Oiled mesh concept.

I can see leaks and light shinning through the cracks. It's not a good seal. I think you pay for what you get.

Plus to that, I've seen a case where the filter components dry out and deteriorate into dust, sucked into the combustion chamber. Don't use cheap open intakes.

Yeah I was about to say how bad do you filters look? After a proper clean and oil they should look brand new basically.

some are taking this too seriouly.

1st, the intakes are in the engine bay, less chance to get heavy dust.

Second, some 30k$ setup are running bird screen only. My friend is running his is300 2jz swap no filter, EVERYbody are loosing their mind, but his turbo intake fresh air is located in the fender. For tracking, he remove the 90° pipe to the fender and remove his headlight. He's running this for 10 years, still have the same turbo, compression is the same. 600whp.

Do a visual inspection, pull hard on parts to make sure its solid, and you can make a test (might be destructive, but up to you) put some compressed air on the liner to see if it wont degrade.

Air filters, is the only thing that I refuse to pay 400$, for a such simple device. Running ebay filter for 15 years on many of my cars, no issue at all. so the same for my friends and family

Also I own probably the top 10 less reliable engine from the last decade. Ebay filter on my B7 since 2015, never washed.

like this same setup, same heat shield , but cheap filter :

you understand when dust was mentioned it was talk of the filter itself turning into dust and being sucked up, not actual dirt

15 years ago ebay filters are much higher quality than the bullshit available now, not a comparison that can be made. and there is a obviously different ones available, not all will be as good or bad as others.

the ones OP had look identical to ones ive seen literally deteriorate into dust and fall apart, so yeah, its possible to get right shit ones
