How do I know if my EGR is working.

The EGR system is still present on my car so the other day after having seen and cleaned out my mates on his 530d I thought I’d check mine. His was almost completely blocked! I pulled the intercooler to EGR pipe off and was pleasantly surprised to see its fairly clean. The car was remapped before I bought it so I’m wondering now if it was mapped out but left in place.
Is this possible and how can I find out? Should I be able to see the large spring that’s connected to the flap turning and when?

You can probably view live data as you're driving, as see an egr % value if it's operating. Not sure of the exact steps to do that, though.

Other tuners write differently? kB by kB, or something, and the code somehow doesn't work? That's a really weird post, rasa... You're BW's biggest cheerleader!

I know about bw. It's just an irrelevant comment on this thread. OP says his egr is surprisingly clean, and wants to check if it's operating, and you tell him that bw codes byte by byte...

yeh,,i was just explaining so he had a choice to get it deleted out ,as long as it is closed by hand if it's dodgy to start with,,ive seen plenty get them coded out via a map,,only for them to start operating throwing codes etc etc,,and if it been mapped out it will not move(egr plunger),,,but if not done properly it may move..lottery
