the error code says that the exhaust gas temperature sensor is Upstream of the scr which I no longer have

can anyone point me in the right direction?

If you’re deleted, it should be EGT1. Have a gutted DPF or a downpipe? If downpipe, you likely have one EGT bung and you need an EGT1. I think EGT 1 and 2 are exact same part but plug into different spot on harness.

yes I have a downpipe installed. and I do remember the exhaust sensor bung on the downpipe. anyone have a link to a part number.

do these temp sensors get fouled by exhaust due to no emissions equipment?

Do you have any monitoring software to find out what it is reading?

It's a big if to guess but if its EGT1, it would be a quick job. First have to determoine what sensor it really is.

The description for 004719 is as you say, EGT before the SCR. This makes me think of the 3rd EGT down at bottom of the DPF. Of course you don't have one of those on your downpipe. I agree with earlier poster to see what your 3 EGTs are all reading. You should only see EGT 1 which is just at beginning of the down pipe. I'm scratching head here too.

But there is an exhaust sensor on the downpipe. I assume I should start there. That seems like it would be straightforward. That is replace the one that screws into the bung on the downpipe.

I believe your other un used EGT2 is same part as the front one. If you saved this part, I think you can substitute it in there. I want to be sure you understand that it would need to be plugged into harness where EGT1 currently is clipped in.
I want to make sure though so I will consult realoem and see if both are sane Bmw P/N.

If I remember correctly when I helped a friend delete his x5d we use his other sensor because the other was damaged pretty badly from trying to remove it from the dpf. And his worked fine except I plugged it into the wrong plug lol

Sorry, Chief. I don't come here that often anymore. I just went into realoem and verified what i thought was the case. EGT1 and EGT2 are the same sensor on our 335d. The third one that is at back end of DPF is a different sensor. You can use your EGT2 if you saved it when you deleted at the EGT1 spot but you have to plug it into where EGT1 is on the wiring harness. see the realoem link I've attached. Item #12 shows quantity 2.
