Exclamation 320i to 330d upgrade help!!

Currently the owner and daily user of a 2010 E92 320i fully stock - massive fan of the car, just desiring more power. Ive always wanted to upgrade the car as I'm obsessed with the e92, but all forums/chats lead to "save your money and buy a 330/335" as the 320i is fairly limited power-wise.

I have a friend selling a 2008 330d e92 auto with M3 wheels, idrive and other cosmetic mods that are desirable to me. He's asking for around £1k extra on top of what I can get for selling my current 320i. Only negatives to this car are 120k miles (30k more than my 320i), slightly more expensive insurance and 2 years older than my current 320i.

Keen to hear any thoughts and wether this would be a smart move, as I've had a few issues with the 320i, including many sensor faults as well as terrible MPG which I hear is better in the 330d, even with the extra HP.

Thanks in advance!!

If it's a good car, go for it, you won't regret it.

However if you live near a ULEZ zone buy a petrol.

120k miles is nothing for a diesel if it has been regularly serviced and looked after. Don't expect more mpg with a remap, you use the extra power so do not save fuel. However it will not use much more fuel and will use the same if you drive the same as before the map. You can't rewrite the rules of physics, more power equals more air and fuel into the engine. More fuel is more mpg.

The BMW 3 ltr diesel is a solid unit, way better than the 4 pot petrol.

Appreciate the response - viewing the car this weekend and will update.

ULEZ zone isn't too much of an issue as I don't dive through any regularly.

Also sort of depends on your driving. If you do a lot of short journeys and driving in town, you won't see the mpg benefits and it will just lead to issues. Big diesels do like longer drives on a regular basis.

120k isn't much if it's been looked after well

FTFY. And +1.

My 30d has a bit over 150k and the only things showing wear are...well the engine is fine. It's super reliable, so long as you keep an eye on it - don't let stuff like glow plug errors or failing thermostats linger.

Also, they like the motorway and are lovely on back roads. They are not town/city cars, of course. The dpf will want fairly regular motorway runs.
