On track the M3 is sublime, the 335d aint half bad either.
Precisely Carlos!

No matter how much you mod a 335d - its still NOT an ///M

on track the M3 is a beast and runs rings around the "on paper" more powerful C63 etc............. as its just so fantastically balanced and engineered

BUT............. everyday driving isn't a race track - unfortunately

and in that respect - the 335d is THE car to have

don't get me wrong - i'm enjoying the ownership of the M3 - but its nowhere near as practical

and as i've said before - if you've got an itch to scratch - you GOTTA scratch it!

I was really looking for a M sport that's why i cant find a coupe in my budget but m sport saloon's are cheaper and i have found one. Thanks for all the advice mate its greatly appreciated. I will send you a link later to show you what i was thinking of buying.

I was originally looking for a m sport coupe but with a 16k budget and the spec I'm after iDrive etc i can't really find one. So i will settle for a saloon. Would you think it would look awkward for a 22yr old driving a saloon as my girl friend thinks it would lol

I was a similar age when I got mine. Insurance got considerably cheaper when
I hit 25. Only 600 quid!

How good do they look when hustled along...

Get the right spec and they do look the Bowlacks

£600 for a mapped 335d, mate that sounds like the deal of the century!
I'm paying that for my 320d and I'm 29 6yrs no claims?

No hijack intended, dxb35d can you pm me some vids of your car. I think another 18months should tip the balance financially with my 320d and may just have to start looking for a 09/10 plate 335d

Bricks and mortar will always win over a car Carl, and you made a wise move.
I didn't know you were racing again, karts?

(no hijack) but i was looking at upgrading to the 335i, i have a 320d atm and i'm not sure if it's only 2.0L but i don't find it fun to drive and thought it was more likely because it was a Diesel power.. and had also read a couple of members slay the 335d (they where 335i drivers) Apart from the obvious, are they a lot different?

If not - why do people get the i's? When they could be getting 30-36mpg and same performance.. And realistically what mpg do the 335i drivers get?

Both excellent but as always it's down to personal taste and requirements.

I'm a petrol head, only ever really had petrol cars so naturally i was after a 335i initially.

Was only put off by the reports of various common failures and at the time the £400 tax bracket. I went with the D in the end.

If you want fun i was very impressed with a manual 330i and the e46 M3 CS is very high ranking in the fun v affordability stakes but you do attract the higher insurance, warranty, tax and servicing costs.

If you like the way the 335i drives is the perfect blend of everything and with a remap it's f-in ballistic.

Mines been about that too, 28.

I just renewed today for £530 something with guaranteed no claims but my voluntary excess is £300 and my mrs does make it about £100 cheaper. Try adding someone.

Amen.

And the 335i can be had in a manual - if you want full driver involvement.

Stock for stock 335i vs 335d are the same!!

Re-map for re-map also. Start getting the 335i 420+ HP then it's quicker!!

I know what you mean mate, I kept saying I won't buy untill I find the "right house" at the " right price".

Looked casually for years but the "Right one" popped up last year!

In terms of the DPF removal it always seems to me that the majority of people on here are quite reserved with modifying their cars (no bad thing). It's probably got something to do with the big repair bills that you can get with these cars making a warranty almost essential and therefor nobody wants to invalidate their warranty with anything to far from oem. The only DPF removal i've read about on here was due to the guy having problems with the DPF and being quoted stupid money from the dealers to fix. It therefor worked out cheaper to fit a removal pipe and have it coded out of the car.

If you look at any of the VAG or Vauxhaul forums you'll see a much larger number of people removing the DPF. It does make the car chuck a bit of soot out the back but not much and it's generally only under hard acceleration. On the plus side it makes the car more responsive, gives more power than just a remap and can make it sound a bit less dieselly. A few weeks back I was speaking to a guy who had just had one fitted to his 330d and at first I thought the car was petrol, he was over the moon with it.

In terms of whether a 335d is better than an S3 it's really a personal preference and needs thing, you couldn't really stand the two against each other as comparable cars in my opinion due to the vast differences between them. The only thing that could really be said is that they will both no doubt put a smile on your face.
