Anyone who has installed a CSL trunk, question
How did you get the bumper stops off the old trunk? For the life of me I can not figure it out. The pieces on the top right and left with the threads...that you screw the bumper stops on to...
The DIY's I found don't tell how????

I can tell you how NOT to get them out (FML). I tried to pry mine out with a screwdriver and managed to break the clips off both of them. I'll pick up a new set, but for now I have them held nicely in place with some double sided tape. Ghetto, but works until I can get new ones.

You can't get to them from the top/inside.
And yeah I started prying a little...then I stopped. I figured there has to be an easy way. Are these called stop buffers? This DIY says to buy those....but it says use double sided tape? If you bought new ones...why would you need to do that? http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=trunk Cool thing is I got everything else done except mounting the plate holder screws (I'll get those tomorrow) and I'm a little worried the licence plate lights will fall out, lol... Fit perfect...just had to do a little filing and dremel work

Yeah, I guess those are called stop buffers. I got everything else out of my OEM trunk (including the expanding license plate screw things -- those came out pretty easily via pliers). I don't get why that DIY said to use tape, either. Unless the new ones don't come with the clips to pop into place? If so, I'll just leave the current ones in there, since the little posts were the only things I broke. I actually forgot about them until the trunk was completely installed, so I had everything intact with these left out completely for a while and the world kept turning. Maybe you don't really need 'em?

You got the license plate holders out!?!? I could not see how without messing those up bad. I tried to use pliars but just broke one right off.
I can open/close the trunk right now easily without those. I don't really understand exactly what these are for...but I hate leaving out anything/not having parts done. I ordered them on my dealer's site last night...so as soon as I get them I'll update.

they come out with force, I pried mine out carefully alternating sides, they came out with a loud pop. the license plate anchors - put the screw in and use pliers to pull like hell. I got everything off my old trunk and installed on the csl.

They came out pretty easily, though. I pulled them out from the back with some pliers, while pushing from the front. One of the ends looks a bit worse for the wear, but they both came out intact and were able to be reused without any issue. I did have to dremel the holes in the CSL trunk as they were way too small for them to go in. Actually, getting them in was worse than getting them out of the old trunk. You have to apply quite a bit of pressure to get them to pop into place (at least I did), and I was worried that I was going to damage the trunk. All worked out, though. Post pics of your install

Also, out of curiosity, how much are they charging you for the license plate screw thingies (technical term there)?

I was going to but if I ever sell the car, I'd like to part out. So I'd rather just keep them on there to put back on.
Here you go...the license plate things are .46 but the damn stop buffers are $10.32 a piece. But whatever.... http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...for_trunk_lid/

Yeah, good point. My old trunk was completely ruined so I was just planning on throwing it away.
That price isn't too bad. I once had no choice but to pay $25 for a single plastic screw and O ring (not for a BMW though). That was painful.
