2011 335i - N55 Motor, won't connect to INPA/NCSExpert

Hi all,
I've got a 2011 335i with an N55 motor, and I cannot seem to get INPA and NCSExpert to work. I'm running Bimmergeeks' install of BMW Standard Tools 2.12, and it works fine with my 2009 BMW 328i. Only the 2011 can't connect.

When I run INPA, it pulls the ignition and battery status, but when selecting the engine, I get a "Data Transmission to Interface Disturbed" error and it doesn't pull up the engine options (to read codes, etc.).

Also, on NCSExpert, I get a "Vin is faulty" error.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong here? Do I need to update my daten files or my BMW Standard Tools installation? I just updated the daten files late last year to the late, so they should be new enough to include any N55-specific updates.

Check drivers, if not possibly not installed correctly.

Apparently the N55 option wasn't included on the INPA menu, so I've downloaded the .IPO files and extracted them to the appropriate directory, edited the E90 config file to include the menu selection, and I've run INPALOAD.

However, when I run INPA, it pulls the ignition and battery status, but when selecting the engine, I get a "Data Transmission to Interface Disturbed" error and it doesn't pull up the engine options (to read codes, etc.).

Did you set the latency timer for the COM port to 1? Go to device manager -> Ports -> USB Serial Port properties -> Port Settings -> Advanced and set the Latency Timer to 1 msec.

Yes, it's set to 1 msec.

So I'm wondering if it's either my daten files OR my cable......I have a 2009 328i, and it connects to INPA with no issues. The 2011 335i, on the other hand, shows the cable connected = "Yes" and ignition = "On", so it reads that....but as soon as I try to read the CAS or engine ECU, I get the following error:

IFH-0003: DATATRANSMISSION TO INTERFACE DISTURBED

I've heard there can be outdated cables that don't work with newer BMW's.....I've owned this cable since 2013, so maybe it's too old to work with the 2011? Or maybe my daten isn't new enough to handle connecting to the 2011?

Let me know what you all think, I'm rather puzzled.

For context, I'm on Windows 10 Pro (x64), running BimmerGeeks install of BMW Standard Tools 2.12, which works with Windows 10. Tried wiping my Windows install and installing everything fresh, but I still get the same scenario as above.

Running the same software as you, I bought a cheap cable off of Amazon last week for my 2013 E92 and received the same error. The latency wasn't set to 1ms which, fixed the errors for me. If that didn't work, you should try a different cable.

Yeah, doubled checked and it's set to COM1, 1 ms.

I'm going to try updating the SP-DATEN and retesting both cars. If that doesn't work, I'm guessing it's my older eBay cable and it doesn't work with the newer car.

Yeah looks like that might be the case. I bought a Bimmergeeks cable, so hopefully that fixes this problem.

Yup, it was the cable. Bimmergeeks cable coded everything I needed, no problem!

I'm getting the same error on my '07 328i. Bought the cable on ebay from seller who sold many cables. The ebay seller sent me a second cable, but I'm still getting the same error.

Probably just need to get a better cable. I'd recommend Bimmergeeks

We also sell cables that are guaranteed to work.

It sounds to me like the problem isn't the cable man! Your cable is working just fine. You might need to check your OBD port on the car, see if anything is wrong with it, like making sure all the Pin look good!

But the error message like "transmission error", I've gotten plenty of those and it has always been the latency time and port problem.

Also, check your port, maybe it's not COM1. look into your USB, is there anything else that is using COM1?
