I saw a bunch of people there use GTech for those measures. From my experince with the Gtech they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. I tested a Gtech Pro, Gtech and Tazzo on a drag strip and the closest one to the real time was the Tazzo believe it or not. Both Gtech and Gtech Pro were off by at least 4mph and .3 in the 1/4mile.

All in all everyone here is still arguing with numbers. Thats why a couple small live runs will determine the real answer. Not doubting that the 335 will beat the 545 and probably even the 550. But by how much. thats the interesting thing.

Before no one on the E60 board thought a stupid IS 350 will beat a 545... but in fact it wiped them away and was basically the same head to head with a 550.

So basically those taht want to come out and see great if not then "oh wells"

All Right! Now we have a discussion going on.

Let me reply to some of the comments I have made.
Quote:
Magazine RACING?!!!!!! Where did a magazine test a 545 or a 550 on a dyno? Please dont just throw words that are not true. I did not get my results from magazine racing.
Yes, initially I thought you had got the dyno numbers from some magazine but apparently you participated in a thread in e60.net where choi000 went to get his 545 dyno'ed. I somehow found that thread and saw your replies. Now, my contention is that I believe that some of choi000's Dinan mods were parasitic in that he actually lost rwhp. Going by the calcuations for rwhp shouldn't it be (325 hp * 15%) - 325 hp = 276.25 rwhp for the 545? You can find choi000's dyno thread here: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=29619

Quote:
As i said before.... and i said it on E60 forums as well.... The 545 dyno's 15rwhp 20rwtq less than the 335 and weighs 400lbs or so more. You do the math.
Yes, as you can see from above I have done the math. You cannot use a single dyno result from one 545 and take that as gospel. As you know not all dynos return the same results. I'm sure if choi000 when to another shop to dyno his 545, he would have different results.

As for curb weight, the stock 335 weighs in at 3571 lbs. The stock 545 weighs in around 3816 lbs. That is a difference of 245 lbs.

Quote:
I have nothing against any of the 335 or 550... Im looking my self at a 335 or 535 soon for a daily driver. Please dont turn this into a biased fest. Larger badge numbers (550) doesnt mean always faster.
There is no bias on my part. I am in total agreement with you that larger badge numbers doesn't always mean faster car. My point is to counter your claim that the 335 will EASILY walk a 545 which I disagree with. I am in agreement that a stock 335 can possibly beat a stock 545 but not by much.

Are there any 335 owners willing to partake in joining some 545s/550s for some spirited driving? If so, this will settle by what margin the 335 might/will beat the 545. We can go on and on with dyno numbers and such but the results on the road heads up is the clearest picture of the 335s ability.

Yes, the Lexus IS350 is a pain in my a$$. It's a good thing the only IS350 I have ever ran against has been EBMCS03's. His IS350 is consistently putting down GREAT 0 - 60 and 1/4 mile times. His G-Meter times are similar to the IS350s that have gone to the tracks. You can find the threads about the IS350s track times over on ClubLexus but unfortunately you will need to register to view the thread. I visit ClubLexus everynow and then and none have really gone up against a 545 or 550. Little do they know that if they did they would have a fighting chance and even prevail in the hands of a good driver.

I'm very happy that the 335i has arrived. That would mean that more IS350s will want to challenge the 335s and not the 545/550s. I just want to stick to the GS430s to play with.

Here is a reply to your post over on e60.net.

don't know why you got such bad results with all these meters.I checked my GT2 against the timers at Maplegrove Raceway in Pa(NHRA sanctioned). The biggest diff was at 330'(.047 sec). The 1/4 time was only .009 faster on the GT2 than the drag strip time. The 1/4 speed was .29mph faster on the GT2 than the drag strip.About 2 years ago Car & Driver tested about 6 of these meters.Their results showed they were all pretty accurate when set up properly.Possibly the meters were not set up for the car you were testing and not calibrated per the instructions.I've found the GT2 to be very accurate when set properly.I am going to maple grove again on 10-27.I will check the GT2 on several runs and post the results. The last time I went I only made 1 run before it rained.

When you say by much what do you mean? Do you consider 1 car by 60mpm not much? In most cases if a car beats another by a full car at 60mph that margin will just grow larger as they go into the triple digits. Assuming both cars had an equally good launch. A win is a win... it doesnt matter if it was by 2 car or 10 bus lengths.

Based on my testing....The problem with the Gtech is that it get affected by wheel spin. The more you get wheel spin off the line the better and higher the trapspeed will be. Spinning tires will just throw it off more.

You're not understanding what I am trying to convey. I am stating that a 335 will not EASILY beat a 545. I never said that the 335 will not beat a 545.

We can keep bantering about how much or little a 335 will beat a 545 by forever. The only way to find out for sure is to line them up in a head-to-head.

Not true... There are some e60 owners selling their cars to get the 335. They are enticed by the tunability of the biturbo engine.

What part of DE are you from? I used to live in Newark and went to University of Delaware. Go Fightin' Blue Hens! :rocks:

My brother lives in Wilmington in Little Italy. Since you go to Newark a lot, have you ever visited "FLAVOR" on Main Street? That store is owned by a friend of mine.

I have a 550i, so if anyone with a 335i in the SoCal (torrance) area wants to meet up, and do a few runs to report back to the boards, let me know.

I agree. It would be nice to see some actual track videos with the same or similar performance driver. I have seen a viper get whipped before my some low HP pos car (nothing special I knew the owner). The viper just sat there spinning. Drivers have a LOT to do with it.

I would like to see a 335i MT (with quality non-RF tires) vs a e46 m3, s4, 550, whatever as long as the drivers are similar skill. Get some real numbers.

Zeroday,
How would you feel about taking your 335 to Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA next week? It's about 48 miles from Wilmington. A request has been made from one of the members on e60.net to meet there. This is from the same person who's timed run I had posted earlier in this thread. He's a cool guy. Let me know.

Quote:
Hey vegatrashed, ask zeroday to bring his 335 to maplegraove on 10-27.I intend to run if the weather is good.Maple grove is only about 1 hour from Wilmington. We can get a direct comparison in a safe manner at the strip.I am not registered on his sight,so I can't talk to him.
