BMW 184 on E9X - N52
Hey all,
I came across a set of BMW Style 184 as I'm looking for a summer set for next year. It's the 18x8 +14 version. Has anyone here used these before? My concern is they're 30lbs each and my current wheels are BMW 284 weighing in at 22.8 lbs. Would plan on putting a 225/40/18 tire. http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/184 My original plan was to go for 18x9 Apex Arc 8 with 255/35/18 however the BMW 184 set is reasonably priced. I would assume a 7+ pound increase per corner would have obvious impact as opposed to dropping 4.3lbs per corner. Any insight? Thanks. |

I don't think you understand about offset, do you have an extra +/- 20mm of clearance on your fenders? I would suggest taking a ruler out to the car and take some measurements both on the inside and outside of the area.

I completely understand offset. The popular 18x9 +30 Arc 8 wheel size requires no rolling or pulling to the fender or rear quarter panels for clearance and perfectly clears inner struts. In comparison to that, this 18x8 +14 would be 28.7 mm further away from inner suspension components and poke a mere 3.3 mm towards to fenders, minimal incremental change.
My inquiry was regarding the additional unsprung weight of approx 7 lbs increase per corner. Especially if anyone has used this wheel in particular. Thanks though. |

Since peeps aren't raving about the "unsprung gains" going from stock to aftermarket, I doubt you'll notice it in the other direction either.
I've found that low-weight/low-power cars reap more benefit from lighter components; our platform doesn't really qualify for either. If you want low weight, go w/ Kosei K1s and the widest tire you feel comfortable installing. |
