Automatic Transmission Service Cost

We had the automatic transmission fluid and filter in our 2008 328xit changed at 50,000 miles. The charge in 2013 was $131.28 for fluid and filter and $250 for labor.

The car is approaching 100,000 miles so we took it back to the same dealer for the same service. This time they charged $72.21 for the fluid and $189 for labor. After pestering the service writer they finally told us that they didn't change the transmission filter.

We said that we would bring it back to have the transmission filter changed, and they said that it would cost $794.99 to have this done.

I believe that this car has the French GM automatic transmission. It looks like the filter is a separate part from the oil pan, so the additional parts would be a $64 gasket and a $53 filter, plus some labor.

I just don't see how they can justify nearly $800 for a fluid and filter change.

Has anyone else had this service done?
What did it cost?

I think it's time to talk to the service manager, and also call bmw head office.

I wouldn't be surprised if in your last service they didn't replace the filter as well.

The last time the filter and pan gasket were on the invoice. This time they were not, and that is what started this mess.
