E92 Valve cover gasket replacement solved trans?

Morning all,

I have a 2011 Sportwagon with 115k on it.

I replaced the valve cover gasket last weekend. During the test drive, the transmission issues I was also having seem to have disappeared.

It was not coming out of gear near stop and rough switching. I thought it was time to service the mechatronic, but now it rolls smooth.

I got a service kit coming and I figure it's time anyway, but I can't wrap my head around why fixing an oil leak would solve trans issues. I wouldn't mind sending these parts back as well.

Anybody got some wisdom to throw down?

Cheers,

That is weird. Maybe wiggling of wiring harness helped, I do not know.

Is your a GM 6L45 or a ZF transmission? The earlier versions of the GM transmission had a software update to fix the 2-1 kick. I am not sure if the 2011 had that problem. However, it might also be the laminate discs of the pressure switches causing you that problem. And I do not think those are related to the valve cover at all.

And maybe do the Zip Kit too, even if it's a 2011.

I'd say it's pure coincidence.

Not related…unless old valve gasket allowed oil to leak down and back onto the a sensor/plug etc when driving or parked on incline. Now that it's not leaking anymore, maybe it helped. But prob just a coincidence. Better service the trans…

It usually happens in the opposite direction, you do a project and it seems to open a can of worms. Count yourself lucky!
