EFI Logics Custom Tuned Stage 2+ 1M

This past weekend a customer brought us his gorgeous stage 2+ 2011 1M for custom tuning. After strapping the car down and installing a set of Forge diverter valves, we smoke tested the new intercooler system and discovered a small boost leak due to an improperly installed coupler. After the boost leak was resolved we went ahead with getting some baseline figures with the stock map and Cobb OTS map. The 1M has CPE catted downpipes, modified mid-pipes and bigger front mount intercooler already installed. The stock map put down 339whp and 393wtq with all of the modifications already installed. The Cobb OTS map put down 345whp and 406wtq. After some carful custom calibration we were able to make a healthy 371whp and 434wtq! This particular gained 26whp and 28wtq over the Cobb OTS map.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Good work guys!!! The overboost on the stock tune doesn't leave as much room on the table for peak numbers. I bet on a multi gear pull it's a world of difference

They dont have a stage 2 map for the 1m yet so the ots map was just stage 1 correct? I'd like to think cobbs ots stage 2+ map would make similar numbers to your custom tune once released by cobb. Did he have an intake?

Wow. The 1M puts that much torque stock?

That's almost 100 more TQ and around 70 HP than stock N54.

What fuel was used, guessing 93 octane?

Do you think there is power left on the table due to lack of octane? Would you have added more timing throughout the powerband if the fuel supported it (E85, meth, etc?). One more, lol, did you guys do any tuning of the vanos cam timing or did you keep cobb's OTS values?

The fact that those numbers are on a mustang dyno make it even more impressive. Thats got to be a blast to drive.

We are comparing the Cobb Stage 1 aggressive map to our Stage 2 and the stock calibration. After speaking with Cobb, the stage 2 map should be out soon for you guys who want a canned solution. As for making the same power as our custom calibration, I doubt it. Cobb leaves some room on the table since the OTS mapping is typically conservative. I will say that after tuning this car, BMW themselves didn't leave a whole lot of room in there, these cars are pretty stout from the factory.

This was tuned on 93 octane, which is the local premium fuel here on the East Coast. We actually did advance the timing, along with tweaking the cam timing (Although there wasn't much found in doing so). We will be playing with E85 in our shop N54 5 series, but until then it's hard to tell. I do believe other forum members are just mixing 50/50 E85 to the cars and allowing the car to learn itself, I'm personally not a fan of it, but we shall see how it goes on our car.

- Chris

Edit: This car was tuned with the stock intake + Forged Diverter valves.

Thanks for the info chris. I'm not knocking your tuning ability, I just wanted to make sure which ots map your were comparing your custom tune to. I and I'm sure many others would love to see a dyno on a stage 2+ car comparing the ots 2+ map to your ATP protune to see how much power a custom tune will net. Would be nice if the 1m can come back for a dyno run once cobb has the 2+ map. Keep up the good work!

Sorry if I missed this- but is the graph in the first post Mustang dyno numbers or the Shootout/Dynojet numbers?

I'm looking forward to your higher power results in the coming months! Should get a ton of east coast customers when the power creeps above the 400hp range (Dynojet, Pump-Only)

Thanks for the kind words. We are going to have a healthy database of BMWs soon given the cars we have already calibrated, are about to calibrate and cars from the dyno day we are hosting soon so you guys will really be able to get a nice sense of how much power can be made given specific modifications and tuning.

All of the numbers seen are from our mustang dyno.

So you showed a Stage 1 cobb tune vs a Stage 2 tune from you guys. Why?

You're talking LTFT...

As you know the N54 is full time closed loop, and STFT is quite capable of NAILING afr targets even on the very first pull after DME clear with 40% E85 on a 93octane OTS tune (admittedly close to maxing STFT)... So, why not a fan? You don't trust the DME? So long as you know the STFT limits it's all fun and games. This ain't your nephews ej257!!

wish this was a typical full bolt-on N54 with OTS/ProTune differences.... AA/ESS both make mid 340rw stg1 so with a little tweaking this sounds about right based on a stage1 map. nice results.
