We our ordering the tool today or Monday. So hopefully we will have it within the next two weeks. We will keep you guys posted!

I will be surprised if this tune actually produces more whp than the JBD. There are guys in europe running this tune that track their cars on a regular basis, but are unable to break the 13 sec barrier in 1/4. At least according to the v-box, hotrod's jbd us spec 335d has run a 12.95 1/4. Wait for independent before and after dyno's, and by "independent" I mean not a dyno sponsored by the manufacturer or distributer. I hope it does produce bigger numbers but don't buy into the marketing just yet.

I agree it's unlikely this tune will make more power than the JBD, unless it raises boost significantly. That being said if I recall correctly hotrod182 always had freakishly fast 1/4 mile times even in his 335i so, I don't know if he's the best standard to use. How many others have broken into the 12's with JBD?

What other standard is there to use? hotrod has on more than one occassion substaniated his vbox times with track slips. I am only aware of a few guys in the US that have taken their JBD diesels to the track and in most cases their cars were relatively new and they didn't know how to best launch them, so there isn't much else to go by.

Same could be said for the European guys. One guy who is always quick versus a bunch of guys who are drag racing novices isn't a valid comparison.

Fair point.

There is a guy and forum member from the UK who has probably well over a 100 runs at the track with his tuned d (you've probably seen a few videos of his black e92 on you tube), so he's good to compare against. He's close to breaking the barrier,,, here's a 13 second run @ 106 mph against a c63

I told Sal and the guys in the exhaust thread that I will need a tune for my 35d X5. Will be following up on it in the next week or two with Evolve.

Thanks for posting to drum up interest in diesel tuning!

Told Paul the same thing three weeks ago when I picked up a remote tune for the M3. He told me they were working on it & expected to have remote tune capabilities in a couple months. We'll see...

Hi mate, that's me over two years ago. My car was Monaco Blue. You can just see that in the vid.

I did many, many drag runs in that car. Thoroughly enjoyed drag racing her. Best was the 13.0@106mph. Did 11 of them. Pretty quick really. Rolling would keep up with nigh on 400HP 335i's.

Good luck with your big power quest boys. Would love to see a 400HP 335d!

I heard from Sal @ Evolve, who told me to contact Imran @ Evolve...just haven't had a chance - just broke the car in a day or so ago. Thing is already a beast, can't imagine what it will be like with a tune.

Too good to be true?

Can someone explain to me why BMW leaves so much performance on the table?

I'm intrigued by the idea of this tune but more HP, torque AND economy sounds too good for this engineer to believe.

Thanks for your replies.

Some of it is for emissions, dumping tons of fuel into the engine while making more power also makes more soot and pollution. The rest I'm sure is for safety margin.

You also have to consider that you aren't getting better economy while using all that new found power, it's when you are cruising and using less throttle to maintain a given speed that you might get better fuel economy.

I see. The mods allow the engine to operate part of the time with higher emissions than California would allow in a new car. So to the extent that the mod expands the operating envelope (rather than fundamentally altering it) there should be no regrets. Has there been any testing of such mods to confirm that economy and emissions under cruising conditions remain close to stock?

Don't confuse my questions with negativity. I'm stoked about the idea, just cautious
Thanks for the reply.

Think I saw it with the courier earlier

Also just to show our commitment to the D market, we now have our own 335d that I'll be using as a daily driver. We have plenty of development work to start on, lots of hardware and continued development of the tune (though it is thoroughly developed already! You guys will be amazed by the results you get with this tune!).

Remote tuning is unfortunately still an unknown and could be way off. VS Motorsports will be offering a great and quick turnaround service.

Through VS Motorsports we look forward to bringing you guys lots of advancement in the world of 335d tuning over the coming months!

ETA: I'll be making sure I get lots of video, dynos and V-Box results to share with you all

Thank you Paul! A couple of questions: have you installed your tune on the d yet? And - could you share what you are planning to do beyond a tune? Inquiring minds want to know!
