What program do I need?

Just got my K+DCAN cable in the mail today and would like to know what program(s) I should download and install. I would like to perform coding, read/erase fault codes, and perform the Alpina trans flash. Links to the software download would be helpful too, as it's pretty hard to find working links these days.

Thanks!

Sounds like you need BMW Standard Tools:

Diagnostics - INPA
Coding - NCS-Expert
Software flash - Winkfp

Easiest way to install is by using the coding pack:

http://dfiles.eu/files/o0cro356a

Instructions inside. Depending what i-level your car is it you may need to update the sp-daten. (use BMW coding tool included in pack)

I downloaded it the file from that link.

So I tried unzipping it with windows 7 and it gave me an error, and then with 7-zip and all of the files have no size, ie 0 bytes. What's the trick here?

Is this what I need? In addition to the BMW standard tools linked earlier? Sorry I am a little new to all of this. A bit of information overload right now.

You will be able to read/erase fault codes with that K+DCAN cable.
You can also use Rheingold BMW diagnostic software for reading/erasing fault memory and testing components which is very easy to use.

I got the software installed and the programs all open up, but haven't gotten around to actually using them or connecting to the vehicle.

Will I be able to code and flash with that cable? In addition to using INPA?
What is this Rheingold diagnostic software?

I suspect I may have an injector going and want to replace them and recode them and reset adaptations.

If the cable I linked above is incorrect can you link me to one I should buy?
Thank you!

A cable you linked is fine, buy it and it will work with your car and Rheingold, and INPA.

Does this pack come with the latest SP-daten that I need? It says it comes with V49 for E8X, will that work for me? Mine is an 2007 E90.

I'm having a slough of errors when trying to connect to the car with INPA.

No, its not latest daten. However you can update it easily.

Also, you may need EXX.ipo

Just Google it and download.

I did get the EXX.ipo error, found the file online, and put it into the correct folder. But I get another error, forgot what it said exactly.

I'm beginning to think my 04/2007 has the older protocol.

Likely the other way around and that's why the cheaper cable doesn't work. the cheap cable seem to always work for pre-03/2007 models. Post 3/07 is hit or miss... I'm trying to find something cheaper than the one-stop version myself. I found this one, but wanted someone else who had experience with it to chime in before I bought it... It'll be good for the F-series as well and comes with some software to save some time.

Hooray! I was able to connect to my car using the download and guide here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=645844

I only spent a couple minutes in INPA but took some screenshots from the "Functional Jobs" menu. Can someone take a look and let me know if you see any strange? I noticed there is an E104 fault in the KOMBI, is this something to worry about?

Since I'm using a K+DCAN cable, does this mean my car has the newer 04/2007+ protocol?

E104:
CAN low error
Error will not cause a warning light
Error is not currently present
Test conditions have been completed

I believe is reference to rain/light sensor.

Clear it and see if it returns. Are you auto wipers / lights working correctly? (if fitted?)

Yes, auto wipers are working.

Where did you find that information?

Sensible,

When installing the BMW coding pack, do I need to follow the steps in this PDF to amend the "Path" variable and add the "ediabas_config_dir" variable in the Environment Variables window? There was nothing in the coding pack about this, but it seems like it might be important.
