I have some 18x9 style 32 wheels from my old e39 I was test fitting today. Offset on them is 24 and they fit very nicely (flush with fenders). Problem is, the inside barrel diameter is wayyy smaller than my Apex Arc 8s (18x9ET30). The wheels clear the caliper but there is literally such little gap that if a wheel weight is placed in the plane of the caliper it would hit the caliper. There is probably about 1/16" clearance between inside barrel and the outside of caliper on rears and a tiny bit more in fronts.

First thought is 'this is sketchy as hell' and I should not mount these wheels. Second thought, if the wheel weights were strategically placed near inside of wheel it 'might' not be an issue. How much caliper clearance is required to be safe?

Disregard, a clearance of 3mm is the minimum recommended by several companies.

I had some 18" style 32's on my e90 for a bit and I actually wore a tiny groove into the wheel from them just barely touching. I even got a weird harmonic sound that nobody could even figure out from the slight touching. I ground down my caliper about .5mm or so and problem solved.

18" style 32's are VERY rare btw so hope you know what you've got there. e39 center bore may make them not as sought after or maybe not, but still, super nice wheels

Solid info thanks. Might be a spring project for me to grind and re-paint the rear calipers to get some more wiggle room. The wheels just look too good for me not to attempt to get them to comfortably fit.

I bought my style 32s strait from BMW Germany a few years ago, the front wheels are no longer available so a staggered setup is extremely rare. I went with a square setup which you can still order but they are like $400 a wheel and will likely run out of stock eventually as they are not manufactured anymore.

Almost exactly my style 32 story as well! Good luck!
