I'm just curious why 17's?

Also the other thing I was wondering, if you had a chance to buy the wheels brand new why didn't you get the offsets you want instead of using spacers?

I'm currently building a set of BBS RS and I'm over here calculating offsets with lip and barrel combinations to get the offsets I want while keeping it square (due to xi awd)

These are the offsets I want, I'm just not at the height that I want because of the lip. Once the lip gets trashed enough it will come off, the car will get lowered more, and these offsets will be perfect. In the meantime I'm gonna try to hide the gap with spacers. I like the look of the lip, but hate how high I have to be to run it.

Also, spacers will help me get the wheels as flush as possible while keeping a square setup of wheels and tires for rotation. I do a lot of miles, I wanna rotate these tires to help em live as long as possible.

And I got 17's for the weight savings, and because I like the look of meaty tires instead of big wheels with rubberbands, not to mention the ride comfort.

Oh, and bsmoov, did you ever get your m3 sideskirts on? I'm making some carbon fiber skirt extensions with my friend and could use your stock skirts to help with the pattern, if you wanna let me borrow them for a few minutes.

You're a brave man for going with 17"s. I couldn't go that small at this point. I have the OEM 219M for "performance" or "winters" lol. Warm season though, I don't care how much they weigh I'm sticking with the OEM 359M. I have spacers on too... so much unsprung weight.

ARC-8s are great especially in the deeper concave. Even with thick tires that car is gonna be super low on 17"s. Damn Daniel

No I haven't got my sideskirts on yet...

They are brand new not even painted or test fitted yet.

I have to wait for my rear bumper situation and I'm almost 90% leaning for the e91 mtech rear. As soon as I get that then both will be painted and installed

Think I got the spacer situation sorted out. 12mm in the back fixed the rubbing, put 10mm in the front. 8mm would probably be perfect, but I didnt have any.

I'd just pull the splitter off now, it's making the car too busy at the front, especially since it's vastly lower than the rest of the car, and it's meaning you can't get low enough at the front. Personally think the car would look a lot better without it, and getting the fitment nice and tight on the 17s.

I have to agree. It looks so sharp now with those Arc8s. I'd pull the front splitter until you have the sides and rear sorted. Will still look badass just lest busy and more balanced.

Thanks for your input. Yeah, I'm torn over it. I like the lip, but hate the height. And I think 1M bumpers look a little weird without a lip. I'm working with vvroom on making carbon fiber side skirt extensions, and that will help with the look on the sides. I already did a couple of mock ups with cardboard and it really ties it all in with the lip.

I think that rather than pulling the lip off I'm going to end up buying slightly taller tires to fill the fenders, I wanted an even meatier look anyway. Anybody want to buy some barely used Sumitomos? Lol.

I spend most time in the "NA" forum so it's been awhile since the last visit. Man, you've been keeping busy. Your car is dope. Strong work.

Thanks man. Now that I have the cosmetics sorted I'm trying to work on the performance bits. I gotta get on your level.

Welp, I was still rubbing with the 10's and 12's. It was better, but there's no reason for it, so I changed the spacers up again. Now I have 10's in the back, and none in the front. I'll live with it for a few days and see how it goes. While I was at it I did my lugnuts the same gold as my intake scoops. I dunno if I'm sold on it, but it is kind of nice to have SOME color on the car.

I've also been patterning out the sideskirt extensions. I bought some M3 rep sideskirts, and I made a plywood pattern for the extensions, then my friend can do a cad drawing based on my pattern before laser cutting the actual extensions out of 1/8" carbon fiber sheet.

More good news, I may have someone willing to buy my new tires from me, if that works out I can ditch ALL the spacers and just run 245/45/17. Then I will finally be rid of my stupid fender gap!

Oh, and for everyone that has sent me PM's about my underside carbon fiber fins, here ya go...

I noticed yesterday that when I unlocked my car in the morning none of the lights turned on like they normally do. No tails, no angel eyes, and I thought, "uh oh, hope it's not the battery..." Later that afternoon...

So, I went and sourced a new battery today and I'm going to throw it in as soon as I can find someone to code it for me.

After that I went to my buddy Moses' house and we worked on the patterns for our custom made side skirt extensions. I had already done some work patterning them out. First I made a cardboard set to get the rough shape and mounting points. Laying under a car trying to measure bolt holes and holding up a 80" long piece of floppy cardboard was real annoying, lol.

After that I transferred the pattern to some plywood, and further refined the shape. Keep in mind that this design is extra flared because of the M3 sideskirts I have coming.

So today I got the M3 sideskirts in the mail and I took them and my plywood pattern over to Moses' and we redid them in foamcore. Having an extra set of sideskirts off of a car that we could pattern from was a huge timesaver. We changed the shape up a bit more, and I think I'm happy with the final design.

You can't really get the full effect in these pictures because I didn't take a pic of the finished foamcore skirt extension, whoops. But, now Moses can CAD it up and laser cut them from 1/8" carbon fiber sheet. It's going to be pretty rad having a custom made part. Nobody will have the same extensions that I do.

I was wondering how you arrived at the tapered form of your new side skirts, and now I understand why - M3 fenders. Wow! Ambitious. Are you doing both front and rear? Will these mean a new M3 hood and custom rear bumper, too? You'll have a rare, wide-bodied E91. Fantastic.

Nah, you misinterpreted. I would love to do a widebody in the future, but now isnt the time. I'm simply doing the M3 replica side skirtsz. I did the flares at the ends of the extensions because my front lip wraps around the side of my bumper, so it's to sort of match that. Mine will extend out a little farther than most extensions as well, simply because of the width of the M3 side skirts.

Back at ABS Autobody today. I had them readjust the brackets for the inlets in the bumper, the old ones were pushing the fender liner out too far.

They also put my battery in for me, and coded it, supposedly, but I still get a battery warning every time I start the car.

Then the new M3 rep skirts went on.

And finally, a mockup of my extension design on my buddies car.

Skirts look right at home. Pics of buddies car from further away? Can't really tell how the extensions will ultimately look like... plus i want to see those gold wheels

Lol, that's the only one he sent me. His wheels are done in bronze autodip, and the car is plastidipped a custom satin grey.
