M tech lip question

I just got my m-tech lip rep. a few days ago and i read a bunch of threads on here about instalation and it seems soo easy it doesnt really take much skill or anything, so i bought some 3M double sided tape at Advance, the package says for automotive use and the guy at the store even said it wouldnt take the whole roll or anything! But for some reason the shit wont stick. It was cold out in my garage and i thought that was why but when i tried inside in the warm the shit still wouldnt stick to the lip. The lip is pu and its pretty smooth, would the roughness affect anything? I know this is a pretty common mod so if anyone has done this could you tell me what you used? The thought also crossed my mind that maybe i got a bad roll of tape...

were both parts cleaned well? 3M works well for the most part, but if you want something more permanent, go with beta link

Use a hair dryer and gently heat the tape.

so i got pissed and started pulling this whole roll of 3m tape apart because i'm telling you guys... this shit doesnt feel stickey enough! So i started unraveling the whole roll to see whats up and parts of it feel different; like i think it should (really stickey) but the majority of the roll is only mildly stickey and wouldnt even stick to paper!
now i'm 99% sure ITS THE TAPE
