Yep, exactly right. I'll let you know how I get on. I'll install the tweets myself as seems fairly simple. The amp/sub install I'll have done professionally (I ain't taking the risk messing with the electrics being a class A thicko)

hmmmm. Good point. Its coming on the lorry middle of October so wont have much chance to get it done in england. I'll buy the tweeters when i'm over next week. Suppose I'll have to hand it over to someone in Spain, christ that's daunting.
Had a full install (in Spain) on an old audi i had a while ago, guys completely messed it up and all speakers ended up blowing. Maybe safer to let spanish bmw garage have a go at it. |

For the amp; - remove the head unit (fairly simple) - unplug big plastic connector - plug in Blaupunkt cabling, plug that into head unit - route that cable from behind the head unit to the boot - easy to tuck in under the centre console trim - decide where to put the amp - plug in end of Blaupunkt cable - connect live wire to battery - connect earth wire to earthing point - turn it on check etc - put head unit & trim back in - the only tricky part in my experience - there is little room behind the head unit to start with, the blaupunkt plug makes this worse - I spent ages cursing and trying to do this bit I wouldn't pay more than 2 hours labour for this. |

I'd like to get the subs and amp sorted at the same time, I'll order the parts seperately and get someone to install them. Only parts I'll do is the tweeters, as running seperates to the subs is a bit more of a jobby than I'm willing to play with. Do I order the tweeters and surrounds from my local bmw dealer? |

Do you need surrounds? I have been hanging around trying to decide on what to do.
Get the Blaupunkt amp and install tweaters using the BMW kit. Do people reckon the fronts should be replaced as well? |

Gizze used the original surrounds for the tweeters if I recall so as to point the tweeters where he wanted them but I've just ordered the full kit from my dealer for £74 including the foam fillers. (He didn't know if the price for the tweeters was for a pair or for one so the biull may increase by £30)
Once I build up the nerve to do it, I will do a photo record. Can anyone tell me if it is worth fitting the L7 front door speakers at the same time - that way the door cards don't have to come off twice. |

I have only fitted the tweeters so far, but its such a simple job that having the door card off twice isn't an issue - in fact mine are coming off again this weekend to fit the foam inserts....................
@ trixman - get the tweeters, triangular plastic thingys and the foam inserts all from the BMW dealer - took my dealer 2 days to get them in for me |

I only added the standard tweeters and amp. I do not feel the need to change the mid range speakers. it really is a 5 minute job to take off the door card so I would add the tweeters first and see what you think. |

When I bought the tweeters they were priced individually, 2 covers and 2 standard tweeters about £65 in total.
I also got the spring clips. The spring clips reside in the centre part of the moulding and can spring off when you take the cover off. Of course they can never be found! as the clips are a few pence each they are worth getting. MOB - is this why you have wind noise from the tweeter moulding, the clip does hold the moulding in tight to the door. i used the clips without foam and have no windnoise. Just got off the phone with the dealers, ordered the above (came to just over 120 quid!!!! Got ripped off there me thinks).
Ordered the 2 spring clips... what are they for? (in case i brake one taking the doors off?) Funny though, guy at the dealers saying "never heard of anyone doing this by themselves though, are you sure you want to do that?"... er, you mean rather than pay hundreds for an hours work? you betcha ETA: nevermind, just read the post above |

The corner mouldings differ on E92 to E90.
The original Blaupunkt thread has all the part numbers Last edited by kend; 10-03-2008 at 10:44 AM.. |

BALLS. Just used those part numbers to order mine and didn't check which model, what an idiot (told ya, and you expect me to fit these myself?!).
Of course they are closed now, give them a call in the morning. Thought it was strange but the guy never even asked me the model or which car etc. ETA: Mind u AlanQS, yours is an E92 so Im guessing those are what you ordered (ie. mine being e92, so it being correct) |
