Rail plausibility errors

I have the Jarek 2.8 tune and all of a sudden I have started getting rail plausibility error codes if I floor it. Any ideas?

Why do you think it's the fuel rail that's bad? Did you check both rail sensors front and back?

Those codes are rail pressure sensor plausibility, and rail pressure sensor short to b+.... Sounds like your pressure sensor is dead.

The rail itself is just a piece of pipe (with a few fittings), so there's no reason to replace it unless it's leaking...which it probably isn't.

Most (all?) diesel tunes raise the fuel pressure in order to increase power and maintain efficiency, so they put a lot of extra strain on the fuel system components. Pressure sensor, pressure regulator, and HPFP failures result.

Exactly what I was thinking

Anyone swap out the two pressure sensors? How big a job is it? thanks for all the feedback!

Pretty straightforward process. Figure out which sensor is bad, front will be easy, rear will need the intake manifold removed and unscrew it quickly from the rail and put new sensor in. You'll probably have some air in there after, I'm not sure if cycling the fuel pump would help push the air out. But yeah should be an easy process. You'll probably need to reset adaptions afterwards too

Oh and if you had a jbd I would check the front rail sensor since I remember a connection between jbd and premature rail pressure sensor failure.

Definitely look up newtis.info for the correct procedure and torque specs. You don't want those things going wrong at 1600BAR!

Running the hpfp is all that will push air out of the rail. You need to crank the engine to do that. I crack off an injector line (loosen slightly, not remove!) then crank the engine until the joint gets wet. Be sure to give the starter plenty of rest so it doesn't overheat, and maybe keep your battery on charge too. Once there's fuel moving, tighten the injector line and start it up. It's likely to take more cranks than normal to build pressure, until all the air has been purged from the system. It will self-bleed as it runs.

is resetting adaptations something a capable independent shop can do? will it be complicated as a result of my Jarek 2.8 tune?

I would imagine they are able to. My indy shop is able to do those things. As far as erasing your tune I would talk with your indy shop about it.

Yes, any decent Indy should be able to reset adaptations. It shouldn't be at all complicated by the presence of a tune.

If you are able to download and install ISTA, you can reset adaptations first. Usually, you'd want to do some data logging to see what is throwing the code(s) instead of just throwing money at the car to see which sensor is going bad.
