335D E92 engine versus 435D engine, differences
apart from the increased hp and torque what the main differences between the 3.0 engine fitted in the E92 LCI 335D and that fitted to the 435D ...... does the later engine still have the same characteristics of carbon build up in the EGR value and intake manifold ...... does the 435D engine have swirl flaps?
would be grateful for any information that can be provided |

Hi Rasa, mines a 2009 LCI and has the M57n2 which is an alloy block. Mine is not the N57, it still has the shitty long tubular air filter that's a pain in the arse to change and the long fingered (old style) manifold. The first year of LCI 325d's had the M57 engine for some reason. One reason I chose mine was BMW didn't fit swirl flaps in the 325d variant so that was one less potential headache to worry about.
Didn't realise the 335d's had the older steel block still. |

The TU2 (n2) engines as fitted to Ex series are supposed to be ali blocks, but you are right rasa I can imagine if they had cast iron blocks to use up some will have found their way into Ex cars.

so does the newer 435D engine suffer carbon built up etc., similar to the earlier engine
there seems to be more problems with the EGR on the later engine - I have read about BMW recalls in this regard |

N57 tends to suffer from carbon build up even more than M57. Walnut blasting once in 100k miles would do just fine.
As for cast iron vs aluminium, you guys don`t even need to leave the forum: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1359516 |

one of the reasons i get egr deleted via software, stops operation and build up,and it totally depends on how the car is driven and been driven, drive them as intended and carbon build up is minimal, drive them to the shops and back all the time and it will build up quicker..
