How many miles do y'all put on your cars in a year?

So far, in the two years, I've had my car I only put on about 5k miles.

I drove it a lot before the pandemic. After the pandemic, the car just sat in the garage and I only drive it like 10-40 miles in a month.

Now, I work for Amazon (only for the summer to save up more money for the 4- year university I'm going to. I'll be paying some of my tuition out of pocket the rest will be a small loan. The majority of the money I am making from Amazon will be for maintenance on the BMW) which is a 15-mile drive (two way) from my house.

I'll probably put on 1,500 miles in the 6 months I'll be working at Amazon.

Once I start attending the 4-year university, I'll probably put close to 7k miles the first year. So, by the time I get my degree (it'll take me roughly 1.5 year-2 years), I'll have put 14k miles on it in 2 years.

I'll have around 73,500 miles on the car by the time college starts(August).

By the time I graduate, I'll probably be around 87k miles. The car will be 14 years old by then. 87k miles on a 14-year-old car is not bad

Bought my 335i with 38k in October 2018 and it currently has 59k. Probably a little under 10k/year.

Bought my E92 with ~115k on it last May, currently sitting at ~126k, so i'd say I fall into the average of ~12k a year. I do just randomly go on 2 hour drives though I love this car

I wonder what things I should take care of before I go to the 4-year university.

The university is a 40 min drive (54 miles two-way trip) from my house. So, if something goes bad, it'll take my mom, dad, or little brother 40 min to come pick me up

All the oil leaks have been taken care of.

The belt tensioner was done by the PO. Drivetrain fluids where change at 61k miles by the PO.

I'm a current junior in college, due to the pandemic i'm currently not on campus, I did live there my first 2 years though and it was about the same distance from my parents you will be. (Currently am not anymore... they're about a 14hr drive from my campus now) Back then I had an E53, not my E92 though. However I made plenty of trips back and forth just to work on that E53, redid the entire suspension (girlfriend goes to school in DC... oh boy those roads took their toll on that thing ), lots of gaskets, door handles, you name it lol. I don't really see a 40min drive as long, I do often get called crazy by my friends since I consider a 30 minute drive to be short.

If everything is in working order (no leaks, creaks, etc.) i'd say change the oil, maybe the coolant if it's old and you should be fine. If you happen to have FCP warranty on things like plugs, coils and filters i'd do them too just so you don't have to worry about them.

Last year was an embarrassment....I put 280 miles on my 335. Usually it'll be like 6-7k....

Think about the financial wisdom in having full coverage on it, da** that's dumb.

I put on 6-7k km (3.5 to 5 mi) on the 335 and the 530 (split them each 6 months of the year). Also have some weekend cars that take some summer mileage

Eh, yeah I've got 0 oil leaks. No coolant leaks as of rn. Got the coolant flange taken care of.

Plugs and all the filters were brought from FCP. Coils PO had them done so...

Thrust arm bushing my indy replaced them. Rear shocks PO did them at 60k or so

Coolant I flushed it out like 2 months ago. Brought the OEM coolant off fcp. So, the next time it's due (2023) I'll be good. Oil changes I buy off fcp so that's free too

Just somewhat nervous to go to a 4-year uni

Typically 10-12k. Last year? Maybe 7k. My oil life monitor just crossed the 7k mark, and I changed the oil in March last year. I'll be getting around to it at the end of April.

I put more miles on my e30 than my e92, and the e30 odo doesn't work (have many times considered fixing it but 1) I don't really care 2) I have an idea of how many miles are on it: odo shows 218k but it's more like 235-240k 3) it saves me money and I won't elaborate on that )

E92 I bought at 75k in August '19 and it's at 85k now, so about 500 miles per month on average. E30 probably sees 8-10k per year now, when I was in school I almost never drove it.

In the past I used to drive a LOT and I put 20k on my e39 in a semester. E34 I did 25k in a year or so

I’m a freelancer and work mainly from home so I don’t put a lot of miles on it. The car had 107k when I bought it in August of ‘16 and I just passed 130k.

I feel your pain, sat all year last with the exception of about 100 miles for service work.

She only has 44,000 miles on the clock, purchased 10 years ago with 31,000 miles, so averaging 1200 miles a year.

And yes, full coverage all year.

30k/yr

I bought a small hatchback in February to absorb some of the miles and put 10k on it in two months.

Used to be about 7k annually. Lots of road trips but I would split commuting on the bike.

Now its a tank of gas a month unless I go on a road trip. Im almost exclusively WFH unless I have to be on-prem at one of the hospitals, which as died off now.

I couldn't WFH. I need to interact with people.

Then again, I'm 22 and single
