Ultimate Clutch Pedal

The plastic OEM pedal was replaced with a metal (Al) UCP.

While exchanging pedals I discovered the over center spring had been removed from the stock clutch pedal, I assume by the previous owner. Perhaps this is the reason I felt the pedal feel pre-UCP wasn't terrible. The UCP feels more rigid, but I suggest that for those who are dissatisfied with the stock pedal feel, first try removing completely the over center spring.

The sintered bronze bushing is light-years improved (in smoothness and reduced play) from the stock plastic thingy.

It's a slow weekend, I'm under the weather, so have some extra reading time. I found a couple articles authored by Mike Kojima in MotoIQ about Charles Dundon and Dundon Motorsports:

Dundon Motorsports Headers and Exhaust System for the Porsche 991 GT3 RS

More Power With Dundon Motorsports – Porsche GT3RS

Here's the link to Dundon Motorsports:

Dundon Motorsports

I met Charles years ago, when he worked at Gerber Motorsports. He struck me with his passion and intelligence. When we discussed exhaust design, I was surprised by his command of thermodynamics, how the physics related to our hobby, and his fabrication skill. Since he mostly just builds for higher-end Porsches, I was surprised when he offered to build an exhaust system for me.

A Dundon exhaust isn't just about sexy materials and light weight. The foundation is a solid grounding in physics, the Otto cycle, and heat transfer.

Mike's writeup goes into more detail, but let's consider Charles' material selection. He sources 321 alloy SS rather than the ubiquitous 304. 321 is more common in aerospace applications for its durability under thermal stress. And his exhaust is light. Really lightweight. Part of the secret is using 20 gauge thin-walled tubing. Finally, the tips are fabricated of Inconel. After he finished, Charles said he won't do another tip in the same way because it took almost as much effort to make them as the rest of the exhaust. The other parts in the system are a Vibrant resonator (my choice) and Coast Fabrication / Burns muffler.

Charles is one of the great guys in our sport. He's also what I describe as a good human being.

For anyone in the market, you could do a lot worse than contacting Charles.

Disclosure: I have no relationship with Dundon Motorsports other than being a happy customer.

Hi, notice you're in Mt Prospect? I grew up in Elk Grove! Small world...

The purpose of my posting about Dundon is less about my specific exhaust setup, and more about bringing one of the exceptional people in the sport to the community's attention.

My goals for the exhaust were: 1) weight loss, and 2) enhanced scavenging for power. Specifically, sound wasn't a criteria, so long as it didn't sound like farts. I posted a video of the exhaust on my old wagon which can be found here on the forums. There are also several on YouTube, including mine. Most are Porsche-centric.

My goals were met. The weight loss exceeded my expectations and the power gains were documented on a dyno. The sound was an unintended benefit. And I love thinking of Inconel and Touring coming together.

I'm out near Algonquin - so kinda close to EG!

Super cool seeing enthusiasts chasing ways to improve efficiencies in cars; you're trying to make something the best it can be. Very curious on the exhaust note now!

A little more progress today. Still outstanding are buttoning everything up, followed by an alignment.

At one level, they're coilovers similar to any other, I suppose:

Nitron UK

I found Nitron after doing diligence on higher-performance, track-oriented dampers for the E9x platform. I also wanted to convert to a true rear coilover.
The 1-way TCKline (revalved Koni sports) resulted in a remarkable transformation of the handling on my last car, and I was interested in learning what an even better damper does for control and feedback. This isn't a knock on TCK, in fact the contrary. The effect of those coilovers was profound compared with the factory suspension.

Nitron has a small N American footprint, because they're a small company. They are built in the UK and are more present in Europe. I think they held or had held the E9x M3 Nurburgring record, not that it mattered for my decision, but it's one piece of data. More importantly for me, a few riders with first-hand experience remarked that Nitrons compared favorably with or better than Ohlins TTX dampers, which are the benchmark in Moto. Nitrons were consistently described as being noticeably plusher riding, even with stiff springs. And, the Nitrons offered better damping control, stronger build (22mm and 24mm large pistons), and more protective finishes (which are said to result in longer intervals between maintenance). The build quality/ coatings / fit and finish is simply a big step above the other leading damper venders. I know this first-hand because I bought another leading coilover setup and compared the two.

BMW owner's thread Nitron suspension

899-panigale-general-discussion/20953-nitron-shock-optionl

When purchasing the kit, Nitron provides engineering support to dimension the kit according to the user (including input like body weight), platform, and use.

Finally, perhaps because they're a small company, the customer support is among the best. When mine was received with incorrect fittings for the rear camber arms, Nitron engineering support asked if I could be available via phone for a consult. We talked twice in one day, sorted the issue, and the new fittings were overnighted from the UK. That kind of service inspires credibility and confidence.

All the above may mean nothing, or not, but I plan to find out very soon.
