Question What does a DCI, and catless down pipes get you?

Looking to boost power a little bit...nothing crazy. Just wondering what some simple mods like this would make as far as power goes.

DCI, catless downpipes, MHD stage 1 tune (maybe +1?) running on 91 octane fuel.

What about a larger FMIC....is that worth the money if I'm not going to do many more mods?

dp and dci, you'll noticed a small difference in power but it will sound better. best power gains are tune/jb4/mhd.

Does a jb4 and mhd back end flash get you more power than just running the mhd flash by itself? I always thought the MHD flash runner was pretty good.

Also... everything I've read says a tune, dci, and catless downpipes will get you well over 100hp gain vs. stock....is that not true?

I ran jb4 first with FBO then added MHD. MHD definitely made a difference. I’d say just do jb4 and FBO at this point then get MHD later. Jb4 by itself is a great first mod.

As far as power goes......does the jb4 piggy back tuner make any more power than the mhd flash tune? I know the jb4 has lots of other cool stuff you can do with it..
..but as far as power added...are they both pretty close?

Yeah the JB4 tune is more power over MHD, but MHD seems to be a better tune. I noticed when i installed MHD is just has a sportier feel, better throttle response. But to answer your question i don't know the power difference between mhd and jb4. Id say go with jb4 first, MHD is better for a highly modded car.

.....but isn't MHD around $150........and JB4 is close to $500?? That's a big difference in price.....

So with a good tune, intake, and downpipes....what kind of power are most people getting? 450 at the crank?

Yes you correct on the price but jb4 by itself is better than MHD by itself. 450 hp at the crank no, probably more like 400-415 hp at the crank. Maybe 360-370 to the wheels. Most people don’t measure at the crank though. What’s your goal HP? Or I should ask how much money do you have to spend?

Jb4 is a glorified boost controller. Just get mhd and be done with it.

I picked up the car (07' 335i) for cheap.....so I have plenty of money to spend on mods. My main goal is to add some power, but still keep it reliable enough to use as a daily driver....and not completely kill the fuel MPG.

At this point, I'm mainly going to do the easy bolt-ons....fmic, downpipes, dci, a tune.....and leave it at that. I have no problem throwing $1500-ish at the car to gain some good power. If I can get into the 400hp range...I will be happy, then I can start working on suspension, brakes, and handling mods ..

I would start here, https://www.armmotorsports.com/category-s/175.htm.

I have arm Motorsport dp and intercooler, have had no issues with them.

$1500, I would do DCI, intercooler, DPs, charge pipe w/bov and jb4.

If that's not fast enough then do MHD, inlets and outlet.

If that's not fast enough then get meth injection and a good tune.

MHD is cheaper, has better maps, installs on your phone instead of opening up your dme box like with jb4 and plugging it in and is a true flash.

MHD all the way

get a charge pipe, and a solid intercooler, id recommend a 7inch, nothing smaller. Downpipes will get you a few ponies as well. Check VRSF website , its all there . 400 hp at the crank is very obtainable on pump gas, if you have access to E85 450-500 crank hp is also pretty easy to get to .

What kind of gains do you get from the 7" intercooler? Is there a lot of cutting involved in order to get it to fit?

there is some cutting involved but its mostly plastic that you can do without.

With turbos its all about IATs ... keep the turbos fed with cool air and you make power. I made the mistake of going with a 5" and its fine for around town and occasional pulls, but it heat soakes easy and doing 1/4 mile runs the temps really get up there. Its tough to measure gains with an intercooler but the cooler your car is the better it will run and your turbos will thank you in the long run.

This. An intercooler will not really give you any horsepower gains but rather allow you to do longer WOT pulls and more consistency if you are doing back to back pulls/ track use.

My opinion is that If you are street driving only, you can get away with a stock intercooler on any FBO setup. Anything more then just upgrade, its pretty cheap.

Jb4 requires mhd to get full benefit. It was great and if going single or pi can be good but now that the dme is unlocked mhd is better. If you are auto then doing jb4 alone is a good way to make your trans slip. Jb4 tricks the car into making more power. If you do backend flash the the jb4 is fine the main benefit is if you want to tune yourself as it is easier to adjust boost. Neither one will get you more power than the other if done properly tho but that means stacking mhd backend with the jb4. Jb4 alone simply cant send enough fuel to to make as much power without the backend flash. Also with dp run stage 2 mhd.

If I were starting over, I would do exactly what Silent said and listed.

XHP is a flash tune for your auto transmission.

Ugh, I thought Stage 2+ was already around 400whp then with E85 it brought it up around 420whp to 450whp. Have been lying to everyone all this time lol

I'm assuming it just bumps up the line pressure to make the shifts a little firmer? Any issues with running the XHP flash and also running MHD?

Thanks for the info!!

Not that simple in the least. Its a complete tune for the trans, just like mhd is for your engine.

And yes, they are made for each other. At flash time MHD asks you if you have an xhp flash.
