Ok..here's the story. I recently picked up a 10/07 build 2008 E92. Since I bought the car used, I'm not positive about what software version the ECU is running. Is there any way to find out if I have 29.2 without actually taking the car into the dealership? It was mentioned in another thread that the key fob contains that information...is this correct or do I need to bring the car in? Thanks.

yes i was going to ask the same thing
i bought the car in USA and exportit to Europe,(but still did not receiv-it)
and I did read about this softwear isues a lot,
alsow consernd about it sense I never drove the car.
how should we now the defrence betwen lag version and the good one
my cars prodution date is 08/2007 and it has 10.000 miles on it now, sow I don’t now was it on service for anything that they could change the old software with new one

Went to the dealer today to find out for sure. The key fob apparently doesn't contain the ECU software version information. The only way to find out, accordingly to the service advisor, is to scan the car through the OBD port. They wanted to charge me 1/2 hr labor to scan...at $118/hr...brutal. I think I'll wait until I actually have a legitimate reason.

514 batch car (yours) should be progman 27...
515 is 28.2 like mine.
Girlfriends is Oct 06 and is 23.2.2
Early March 08 is when 29.2/MSD81 came along, but didnt hit dealers until up to mid-April.

They should just have an "About this BMW" option that tells you what software you are running, just like on a Mac.
