Blackberry 7100

Just got my 2006 325xi (no Idrive) and my blackberry 7100 matched perfectly at the dealer. (No address book but other than that it worked fine with Cingular Voice Dial. ) Next two days it wouldn't work, then this morning no problem. After a little trial and error, confimed your phone must be on the home screen and lit prior to starting the engine. Successfully worked several times in a row. Bit odd but as along as I followed this sequence, it worked.

Does the 7100 require you to accept the bluetooth connection as well? I know it works that way with my motorola earpiece. I won't have my car to test with for another couple of weeks.

Did you set your blackberry so that it treats your BMW as a "trusted" source? If not, you will be prompted to accept the bluetooth connection every time the phone tries to pair with your BMW.

I did change it to a trusted source, and, the success rate to connect to the car is about 1 in 4 starts. It is driving me nuts that I cannot figure out why it works fine 1 time and not the next several times. Any ideas?

Blackberry update

Received email back from RIM Blackberry support. Ref to Knowledge Base Article # KB-03690 dated August 8th. Now I have to go back to Cingular and get them to update my 7100 to version 4.0.2

At least I have an action plan now.

I have a 7100. You need to make sure the key pad is not locked, when you are in the car. Make sure you set your blackberry up so that it doesn't lock the keypad when holstered.

Updated 7100

Updated the file from Cingular to 4.02, keyboard is not locked and it still only works 1 out of 4 times. Out of ideas, does any one have any other options besides getting official BMW sactioned phone?

BMW Blackberry update

Have done the software upgrade to 4.2, talked to Cingular, BMW and Blackberry. All 3 point the finger to the other. Here is the bottom line:

**Cingular will help you update the software to the latest rev. Period
**BMW will only help if the phone is "officially tested and accepted"
**Blackberry knows they have a problem but point out they are Bluetooth 1.1 compliant but they are working on it.

$40k car with a non working $150 phone. I wonder which one I will eventually change? Will wait another month to see if anything happens.

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.
FYI - I use a blackberry 7250 and it works just fine with my E90. It's running OS 4.0.0.241. If you're using 4.0 or later, I suspect it might be hardware problem.

I just wished blackberries allowed for data transfers over bluetooth as well as voice. Unless that happens, we will never be able to get telephone numbers into our cars.

Have you upgraded to the 4.0.2 software version on the 7100? I am going to try my friend's 7100 at work and see if it will operate it after I pair it but I am afraid it won't help.

How do you get OS 4.0.2??

I've spent hours on the phone with both Verizon and Blackberry technical support and neither of them will provide me with 4.0.02. Does anyone know how to get it???

Blackberry 7100g Success

I went to the dealer yesterday and received 2 software updates. First was for rough starts (very smooth now) and the second was to fix the Bluetooth problem that kept dropping my connection. It now works every single time. It is great.
Cingular has the 4.02 download at the following address:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...a38d58152158TR

Again, this is for Cingular; do not know if there is any difference for another carrier. It is my understanding 4.02 is available for all carriers and 4.1 that will fix the Address Book issue will be released within the next two weeks. In the interim, I am thrilled by 2006 325xi works. Please note you have to have BMW Assist for it to work, I believe.
