ST LOW MOUNT - COMPLETED

Has been quite a while since updating this thread, but that said hardly anyone visits the E90post forum any more. For those who have been following along. The modding still continues

After a good 18 month journey the low mount single turbo is finally installed and running. Once again all due to dedication, skill and genius that is Vincent Lim. (thank you mate)

Hi Phil. Your not wrong when you say no one looks at this E90 Australia Forum anymore. The new low slung ST looks stealth as you cannot see too much compared to your previous arrangement. Vince has done an excellent job once again. Is there any different in performance or noise from the engine compartment. What coils are you running now? Are they the B58 coils. I see on Page 1, you state Bimmerlife coils but that not them.

Hey Coupes. So nice to see you name pop up again !!! Page 1 update (sry about that) Yep very quite in here (tumble weed rolls by) hahaha. Yes Vince did an amazing job. Still needs Tim to do his tuning magic but otherwise, the low mount is great. Performance wise, it pulls better and is probably 10% smoother due to the old set up having a long term boost leak and damaged turbine blades. Sound wise not much difference. Can still hear the turbo spool and BOV sounds The major advantage is heat management. No more melted coils etc. Had to replace the bimmerlife coils with the B58s simply because they were cooked. Car is running really nice expect for a long crank when hot. Be interested to see how it goes on the dyno when Tim gets the tune properly dialled in. Nice to hear from you again mate. Have you still got your car? If not what are you driving now??

Hey mate..... yes was quite a drawn out project but got there in the end Highly recommend a low mount over a top mount, if you ever go down the ST rabbit hole

Yes Socks, I still have the 335i. I had a 8HP75 transmission installed and got it down to 10.6s on 20psi boost and e30 fuel. The transmission is great for driving around town and quicker down the strip. I also have a M240i Xdrive G42 with no mods which is a pleasure to drive. How do you find the B58 coils? My BL R8 coils started to play up so I am back to the OEM coils currently. They worked ok when I did the 10.6 so I haven't bothered replacing them as yet.

Nice Coupes, 10.6 is flying mate, congrats...... Haven't done much driving on the B58 coils tbh. I have a long crank thing going on. Funny things is the long crank is only when starting the engine warm. We have logged it but everything looks normal (fuel pressures etc etc). Taking it over to Eastern BM in a couple of weeks when they have some time to fit me in. Meanwhile trying not to drive it too much until the problem is sorted.

There always appears to be some issues with our cars these days. It may have something to do with their age but I am chasing an ABS issue currently. Did your long crank start after installing the B58 coils? There maybe a spark issue with them once they heat up.

Yeah that is my vote. The Coils. I would reseat them all...at a minimum.

Air fuel spark you need all 3. I assume you have plenty of air and fuel in your cylinder.

People have made 750whp on eldor coils etc. While I understand the advantage or the higher power coils, they are not required. 'Inexpensive' coils should work fine for you.

Cant remember if the long crank was there b4 installing the new coils, but worth looking into. Would explain why the logs look normal

Never thought of that Torgus. Ill put in some stock coils and see if the problem goes away. Thanks for the suggestion mate

Swapped back to OEM coils and reflashed tune
No difference, long crank persists
