Sadly they pretty much always get away with it no matter what the circumstances.

I hope he doesn't get away with it. Not because I want to laugh about it but because I live in the probably pointless hope that something like this could make police forces and scamera 'partnerships' sit up and take notice of the fact that the current way of policing the roads and trying to increase road safety by draconian speed enforcement simply does not work. I'm all for increasing road safety but this is not how it's done. This is taxation, pure and simple.

Coppers in cars is what's needed if we're serious about road safety. No camera will do anyone for eating a pasty, talking on a mobile etc - that's what's really dangerous. Speed itself isn't dangerous, inappropriate use of speed is. When I last got done for speeding (93.25 in a 70) I got away without a court summons (automatic for that speed in that county) and got 3 points/£60, because I was pulled over by 2 rational human beings who listened to my reasons why and viewed the case on its merits, checked the state of my car, observed that I was not driving dangerously, was in full control etc. That doesn't happen with cameras etc. Sad thing is that had this senior police officer been pulled over then possibly no more would have been said whatsoever.....

Getting off my soap box now

Hang on.... this was in MAY?

Anybody else see the flaws in the whole thing here?

1) If the NIP has only just been issued, it's NOT valid.

2) If it was issued in May surely the CPS will be adding a S172 "failure to furnish" charge as well?

I think 1 will be the excuse as to why he'll get away with it and 2 will never happen as he's a cop!

I would guess that the NIP was issued on time and he has responded to say he was not the driver (or similar).

If he had taken the points it would be over and if he had failed to respond there would already be a summons.
