N54 Fuel Injector Recall?

I did a little searching around this site and it appears that depending on the build date of the car, the fuel injectors were included in a recall along with the HPFP? Does anyone have the details on this? My car is currently needing all six injectors replaced, and the dealer is asking $2000. They are denying me any recall benefits because my VIN does not have an open campaign. Has anyone been successfully able to get their dealer, or BMWNA, to include their non-campaign 335 in the recall? My car is an '07 and I'm much out of warranty. Thanks!

imho it totally depends on the recall campaign, and that is long gone, there shouldn't be any N54s that didn't go through it, short of a hermit keeping it in his garage and somehow deciding to drive it now. They were very careful about going beyond the HPFP, some cars had the LPFS replaced, and some injectors as well. With the injectors, their barcodes were scanned to determine eligibility for replacement, it wasn't willy-nilly. My car is an early '07 and the only thing it got was the hpfp. I have never had a hpfp issue so I was leery about doing anything, but I did the recall and nothing happened. That was what, 1 1/2 yrs. ago??

I have a production 08/2007 335i. All of my injectors were replaced when I brought my car in for the HPFP recall.

Mine is an 08/07 as well. When I had the HPFP replaced over the summer, the fuel injectors were not included.

So, it sounds like the recall period might be over, from what I understand?

I did. I had a 2009 not under the recall. All my injectors were failing. I cited my previous hpfp problems and my lpfp problem. I called BMWNA and they paid the parts, I just paid got the labor.

I told them I knew there was a recall on the previous model years, and there was no reason mind should all be failing at 60k miles.

Yeah, mine is an '07 with only 55k miles.

Thanks for the information all. Perhaps I'll call BMWNA and see if there is anything they can do.

The injector recall was for emissions reasons. The model or serial number indicated the bad ones. My point is, I don't think the recall "expires."

It is only for a very specific and very short build period in 2007. If yours is not on the list and you are out of warranty BMW does not give a shit.

There's a good DIY on injector replacement here somewhere. Not for the faint of heart from the looks of the job though.

Hey BavarianBuilt, any update on this? I have 2 bad injectors on my 07 and my dealer is saying the same thing as yours. He says there are no open recalls when he reads my key so I have to pay out of pocket.

DIY injector replacement simply isn't that hard and reprogramming can be done by an indy. I would check Tischer or if you have time send out to be refurbished. I got fairly quick turn around time unless the problem is the piezo electric solenoid then you have no choice but to buy new.

Yeah, I'm definitely planning on doing the DIY; I think I can code it myself too. But free from the dealer is always better haha

Ok, so I had my HPFP replaced in August 2012 under CPO and looking at the receipt there is no mentioning of the fuel injectors being replaced. My car has a production date of 08/01/07. I realize the production date of the car and the engine may vary, but my car production falls under the date I coped from the link above: "with the N54 engine produced from 04/02/2007 through 10/31/2008".

My question is, does it appear that my car would qualify under this recall? If so, would the FIs have to fail for BMW to replace them, or can I just bring the car in and request them to be changed under the recall?

Nothing yet, but I am still in contact with BMW NA in regards to this. I'll keep posted on the final outcome.

I ended up having three injectors replaced and had to pay out of pocket $1200. I still need to eventually have the other three done. My advice if you must pay is to buy all of the parts on your own and do not pay dealer prices for them. I, mistakenly, paid more than double for the parts getting them at my local dealer. I would highly suggest www.getbmwparts.com. The labor, even at the dealer, is actually not too bad. If you buy the parts and get the labor done at an indy, you could probably sneak away with a relatively inexpensive bill.

Call your local dealer, or BMW NA, and ask them to run the last seven digits of your VIN for active recall campaigns. If the fuel injectors come up, they'll replace them immediately, even if they are not experiencing failure.

im fbo besides exhaust, no meth and i went to the dealer couple months back to pick up the history of services done to my car. The tech told me im eligible for the injector recall and told me to book an appointment to see if i have faulty injectors.

I didnt do it because my car is running fine. My question is incase i ever do run into a situation with injectors will i still be able to have bmw replace the injectors with the mods i have?
