RIP Engine?

Had a rough idle and fuel cutting off. Revved fine after 1000 rpm and even went up and down the block. Pulling all the belt out now.

you may luck out, but yeah any glitter in the filter I would probably look to do the rod bearing and consider your long term plans with the car

Which car was this?

I know you posted recently about trying to decide which of your E90s to keep, well this should make that decision easier. What exactly happened? I see a belt that looks intact where did the other one inside the engine come from?

Also this makes me feel 100% better about deciding to install a crank seal guard on my 335 last week.

thats what is going to occur to N52 owner who will not resolve oil leak from valve cover or from oil filter gasket in a timely manner.
the oil spill on the belt, it began to slip, then slip off the pulley, wrap around balancer and eaten by crankshaft via crankshaft gasket

Install the guard to protect that new seal. I got the generic one on Amazon, next day delivery, cheap and fit perfectly.

Car runs and sounds good. But it needs a fuel pump. Just did oil pan gasket. Cleaned out ALL THE BELT FROM PICK UP TUBE, Even took out that whole apparatus (get O ring for the tube). Belt tensioner and guides looked find even tho there was a tiny piece chipped. Valve cover was opened. No belt inside that area but some belt still near the chain at the top of the engine. Not as much as the bottom. Did the crank seal and pulled all the shards of belt. Replaced motor mounts and i think my friends replaced trans mounts.

a consideration: you've already started the engine; send an oil sample to blackstone laboratories for analysis of any contents or contaminants in the oil (ie: metal shavings, etc). it is only $35 and will provide insight into the internals.

suggest awaiting the blackstone oil analysis results before any further engine "on".

Good idea. I have their black box. Okay so after high pressure fuel pump. Test drive then drain mobil one 5w30 oil and put that in the bottle and send to blackstone? It would be the first oil change after taking all these repairs.

you can email or call blackstone - that is my recommendation; it seems the safe approach is to send an oil sample of the oil you just put in the engine after repairs and get a snapshot of its condition.

another item that would be very helpful is to send blackstone your oil filter for analysis - this would provide yet another insight into engine internals.

suggest contacting blackstone with thoughts on oil and oil filter analysis prior to placing any operating hours on the engine.
