Check your TPMS year, put on winter tires and..oops!

So I bought a set of winter tires and rims for my 335, the one that BMW packages.

All is good - until my TPMS light won't turn off, even after resetting. Well, after i had them on, apparently I did some research and I have the 2010+ sensors, and my car is an 08 - so no good. Now i need to get sensors and replace them, having to mount the wheels all over again.

My mistake! But I learned a lesson for next time, and hopefully you guys pay more attention than me.

yeah this is an issue. i have found wheels/tires i wanted to buy but the year of tpms broke the deal as I would have to buy a new set plus unmounting and re-mounting. These costs add up quickly at 220$ a pop for installation and re-installation plus the tpms you are sitting ugly at 600$ dollar$$ yikkey yeah.

That sux.. I had that issue once with my former MDX - bought TMPS sensors and rims.. the sensors wouldn't fit the rims... no I lived with the light on for the winter.

That being said, I am SO glad my bimmer doesn't have TPMS.. such a waste of $, afaic.

Ha ha bro I was in the same position when I got this 2011- the tires and TPMS sensors were from my 2009 328.
I did it and spent money for a whole new set of 2011 sensors.

I don't have tpms sensors in my snows, so the warning is always on. imho it's just like traction control and stability. Before those features existed, people actually drove, believe it or not. It's like being a hockey goaltender without a mask or cage, sometimes, we just have to rough it.

TPMS sensors are waste of money- until you get a flat or a low tire.
They saved my ass a couple of times with their early warnings.

yeah, a lot of people just live with the light in the winter, including myself. It's only two or three months.

..it also makes you a better driver as you have to pay more attention. Time and time again I get passed in the Winter by morons in AWDs (particularly SUVs and Trucks) who, for some reason, believe that AWD/4x4 provides better traction.

You can get a set of TPMS off ebay for around 200.00 they are aftermarket, but work just the same.

In fact I think tire rack also carries these for around 200.00 the tire is already balanced right? shouldn't cost more than like 5 - 10 bucks a tire to just have it all mounted, not sure where you guys paying 200.00 for tire mounting/dismounting that's outrage.

Where ever you had it done originally I would just ask nicely if they could just remount with new TPMS they may do it for free.

He won't be interested in that. I am and my E90 doesn't require TPMS. I think I had over 30 sets of wheels since 05.
