EGR/SCR Delete - Smell

Is the smell normal? it stanks!

And it doesn't smell like diesel fuel.

DPF and SCR Cat is still intact, ie no hardware removed.

Yeah normal. Matt Whitbread has a catted DPF that is milder.

That isn't normal with DPF and SCR still in the car... If those were removed, then it'd be normal.

This is confusing. Are you running a tune? Is the smell on the outside, the inside, or both?

You've removed part of a chemical reaction process. I have no idea what nitrogen oxides smell like but I'm guessing you just figured it out

Rereading post, see that you still have SCR. My SCR smelled like ass for a week after I used some of that Liqui Moly DPF cleaner, the stuff with the long hose. Then the SCR up and died, under warranty fortunately.

Like someone else said, your lack of DEF injection is screwing with the chemical reaction process. I guess that is to be expected. I'm not too familiar with tunes that don't delete any hardware.

yeah see how everything eventually turns to CO2, H2O and N2 (all of which are in air)...yeah without SCR you got all those other things just going straight through all the NOx stuff yeah bad.

It can cause breathing problems, headaches, chronically reduced lung function, eye irritation, loss of appetite and corroded teeth.

asthmatic, toothless are definately negatives, but skinny is a positive

but yeah my car is deleted but "off-road use only"

Not sure how the DPF impact smell since it moreso collects the soot, and doesnt really contain a catalyst. but im sure little soot particles smell like something and not something you want in your nose lol.

DOC affects the smell. In the OP’s case he still retains the DOC. However, none of us really know if not having urea injection would or would not affect the smell.

If you delete the SCR (adblue injection used to control NOx emissions), you'll likely smell more NOx, especially at idle and parking lot speeds where it is most concentrated and you're moving slow enough to notice it. It smells kind of like bleach to me.

If it bothers you, I recommend you drive faster and spend less time at idle.

Garage List
Remove that DPF! Those things are dangerous! They incinerate the carbon into smaller molecules of soot more easily absorbed by skin and lungs!
