I've had my D for a little over a month now and the transmission seems to be operating in ways that I didn't expect. For example:

- while maintaining 70KPH, I mash the "throttle", the engine revs shoot up to just over 2000 RPM but nothing happens yet.... 1 - 100 - 2 -100 ... the car lurches forward. It's a little faster in DS than in D.

- After the lurch, I stay at WOT until ~4K and let my foot completely off the pedal. The car revs stay at 4K and slowly decrease. After about 2-3 seconds, the engine finally seems to decouple from the drive train and the revs drop way down.

-I'm driving at 80KPH with minimal throttle and take my foot off the pedal. The transmission doesn't freewheel and doesn't let the car freely coast. It slows down the car and feels as though it's gearing down as I coast to a stop.

- There seems to be some inconsistency in the transmission operation. Sometimes it feels as though very little power is being transmitted through the torque converter/transmission while other times it "locks" much more quickly and puts me back in my seat. I would think a torque converter for a diesel has a very low stall speed relative to the TC for a gas engine so I'm not sure why it as through there's major spillage in some scenarios.


Is it just my (damaged?) transmission or is what I'm experiencing "normal" for this car? BTW, the car is bone stock.

Could it be ambient temperature related? I haven't driven the car at a greater than 5DegC ambient temperature although the engine must have reached normal operating temperature after a 1/2 hour of hard driving.

That doesn't sound right at all to me. I'd get it checked out. Even when my car was stock, it didn't do that.

The good news is that the transmission is holding up well after 5 years. The bad news is that I still have the same complaints about it.

Does yours exhibit any of the same traits?

Might try an Xhp transmission tune when it comes out of storage in the spring.

Unfortunately, we have a pretty loose tc, not like you expected for a diesel.
During warm up, below 35C or so trans fluid temp, the tc will stay unlocked which makes it feel sloppy like you described.

yea, my tc basicly showed strange behaviour, mainly in 2nd or 3rd gear the lock up would be somewhat unstable and the semi-lockup weirdly operated. iv had transmission rebuild and a new tc fit in which helped maybe for like 70% of the issue, its still not perfect. shifts are smooth but the Tc is acting a bit annoying at times... i wonder if new software would help. however my trans adaptation values are at the maximums for some clutches so i also think there is a pressure loss somewhere in the transmission making the tc not operate perfectly as well.. im going to another shop next week to check my fluid lvl just to be sure the first shop didnt mess at least this up.. also did you check your trans fluid temperature? i feel like sometimes it thinks its not warmed up yet and so it allows more slippage than it should even after long drive. just a theory tho

Low level fluid will make the clutches look bad in calibrations and other issues.

thats why im gonna double check on the fluid level, but i have a feeling it wont be so simple..
