Hood/trunk roundel bluepring measurments
Not computer/engineering literate in the least bit but just wondering if anyone has access to the measurements of the roundel. I don't mean the sizes of them (82mm, 74mm) but like how long each corner of the blue part is, the size of each letter, etc. Basically, I saw a member on 1addict who had his made but I want to change the letters:
Figured if I had the 'blueprints' (not sure what you call them), I could send them to a vinyl shop to print. |

Let me know if you come up with something, man! I've seen tutorials online where they take a picture of the emblem, upload it to CorelDraw, and custom measure the blue part of the emblem to create custom colors. I think what I'm wanting is one solid overlay that fits over the entire emblem. Here's the video I was referring to:

I kinda had something going but wasn't particularly happy with the accuracy. I'm not sure how the dome shape gets accounted for in the flat drawings, and I'm not sure how closely the roundel matches the 2d logo.

UPDATE: Contacted a vinyl shop and they made a custom, outer black ring for both the hood and trunk. They could only do a minimum order of 15 so they made 8 for the hood and 7 for the trunk. Cost me $34 including shipping.
Because the emblem is a little convex, I had to make a cut to prevent creasing. You can you can see the cut to the left of the 'K' (not the cleanest line as I was attempting to have it hug the edge of the 'K') but isn't noticeable unless you press your nose against the roundel. I applied one end of the vinyl to the left of the "B" in 'BMW' and worked the vinyl around counter-clockwise and ended on top of the 'B'. Also, I had leftover tint which I applied over the blue areas of the roundel. The dark blue matches perfectly with my Monaco Blue paint. You can see the light blue of the original peeking out on the bottom portion since I cut the tint on an angle by mistake. Might go back and redo it. Super happy with the price and the quality of the overlay. Time will tell how long they hold up but I have extra just in case. |
