The blower motor recall is finally happening in Australia!

The blower motor cable recall is showing on the recall list for Australian cars now! Glad to know it won't burn down to ashes, after the fortune spent on maintenance and mods lmao

Use this link to enter your VIN, and check your car's recall list:

blower recall

Hi peeps,

Reviving an old thread, part of the recall waiting list since Sept 2018 and still waiting. How long did it take for you?

They will book you in once they get more in stock. Last time they told me they only had a few on hand for "extreme" cases. They should give you a call to book it in again once they get more in stock.

World wide shortage I was told.

At the very least you will get a 6 inch pigtail which replaces the last section of the harness to the blower controller. This is for vehicles with no visible indications of fault in the last 6cm of the harness - ie. Insulation is not discoloured, missing sections or crispy.

If the insulation is discoloured, you also get a new blower controller.

If the insulation is crispy or missing sections, you will get a new blower controller and almost complete replacement of the harness back to the junction box.

What years were effected by this? Put my vin into the site & the only recall listed was for the airbag, which has been done. Being a MY 13.5, maybe mine had the updated part already?

I checked the recall list this afternoon and found my car on it but I have never been contacted by BMW about checking the blower and wiring. I decided to have a look myself. It only takes 2 min to drop the cover off below the glove box and have a look. Mine doesn't show any signs of heating where the wiring connects to the blower or in the wiring so I am save at present.

Had my blower motor wiring recall done last week. They also did my engine breather pipe connector on the manifold. Apparently the heating element in them can cuase a fire in extreme cases. Is this breather connector recall in Australia as well? I'm in NZ

Looks mint.

Another tell tale sign is a scorched foam pad on the footwell cover. The blower harness has gotten hot enough to roast the foam pad. But if you see that, then you may aswell properly assess the situation

Heater? Do you mean the blower or the crankcase vent heater?
As far as I'm aware, the latter only got announced recently in Australia
